Black Panther 2 Wraps Filming
Crew members from Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirm the film has finally wrapped filming. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel has been in development since 2018, but director Ryan Coogler has not had an easy path to replicate the magic of the first film. Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing in 2020 meant Black Panther 2 was suddenly without its lead character. Marvel Studios decided not to recast T’Challa, leaving Coogler to retool the script to focus more on other characters, such as Shuri (Letitia Wright), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and M’Baku (Winston Duke).
Production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was delayed due to the story changes, while COVID-19 also complicated the expected shoot. Filming began at the end of June 2021 even though a final script was not locked in stone. It wasn’t too long after that Black Panther 2‘s production encountered its first big hurdle, as Wright became unable to continue working after sustaining several injuries during a stunt. While filming continued without her, there was only so much that could be accomplished with the franchise’s presumed next star. Wright was then at the center of more controversy due to COVID-19 vaccinations, and Black Panther 2‘s release date was delayed to late 2022.
It now appears that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has reached a major milestone and finally wrapped filming. Production resumed at the start of 2022 with Wright healed from her injuries, and the cast and crew recently moved to Puerto Rico for its final stretch. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever News noticed that multiple crew members have now confirmed on social media that Black Panther 2 is done filming. This includes costume designer Ruth Carter (in a since-deleted post), hairstylist Nikki Wright, and cinematographer Autumn Durald.

The end of filming for Black Panther 2 means Marvel Studios has now wrapped one of their most intriguing Phase 4 movies. Specific plot details are not known, but it is widely expected that the sequel revolves around Wakanda going to war with Atlantis. This positions Namor the Sub-Mariner as Black Panther 2‘s villain and could set up his own spinoff. Many are understandably curious to see how Chadwick Boseman/T’Challa’s absence will be addressed, while the sequel is also expected to see one of the main characters become the MCU’s next Black Panther.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapping filming near the end of March 2022 is a good reminder to fans of just how long the movie has been in production too. Nikki Wright’s post highlighted how this was day 117 of a planned 88, showing just how many extra days the cast and crew have spent making the film. Doing all of this with strict COVID-19 protocols and still mourning the loss of Boseman has certainly made this a challenge for those involved. Hopefully, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever proves to be just as special as various people associated with the project say it is.
