The newest Black Widow clip pokes fun at Natasha’s superhero landing, as her onetime sister Yelena Belova gives her a hard time the way only a sibling can. After years of fans begging for a solo movie for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff and multiple delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Black Widow is finally just around the corner. The MCU flick will debut in theaters on July 9, and it will also be available via Premier Access on Disney+. Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow will be the first Marvel movie to arrive in Phase 4.

Set in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity WarBlack Widow sees Natasha revisiting her Russian roots. Little has been revealed about her backstory in previous MCU installments, but this latest film promises to pull back the curtain on where Natasha came from in a major way. Case in point: The introduction of her spy family, which includes Yelena (Florence Pugh), Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), and Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour). Over the past week, several clips from Black Widow have been revealed, and they’ve all put the spotlight on the new supporting cast.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The latest Black Widow clip arrived when Pugh appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Friday. The short bit of footage arrives 7 minutes and 3 seconds into Pugh’s overall interview and shows Yelena ragging on Natasha for how she lands in a fight. Yelena drops into Nat’s signature pose and questions why she always flips her hair up dramatically. Needless to say, Natasha is not amused. Check it out below.

In the comics, Natasha and Yelena have occasionally been known to have a more antagonistic relationship, but Black Widow looks to be pushing them firmly into sibling territory. The way Yelena makes fun of Natasha’s heroic poses in the above clip fits how siblings often mock each other, and it’ll be fascinating to see Natasha act opposite a sister in Black Widow. As the former assassin has often emphasized, for years the Avengers were her only family. What will she be like when she has a younger sister tagging along on her mission? Fans will actually get to find out soon.

Beyond the sibling dynamic in Black Widow, many wonder if Marvel is setting up Yelena to be Natasha’s replacement. Pugh is already confirmed to appear in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, indicating there’s a future for her after Black Widow. If this is the case, then it’ll be funny to see if Yelena will ever find herself striking dramatic poses in the middle of a fight, which would be quite the change. Maybe she’ll have learned them from her big sister.
