A new mod for Blade and Sorcery puts the most elegant weapon of the Star Wars galaxy into a player’s hands, replacing the medieval broadswords the game usually employs with the iconic lightsaber of Jedi fame. This is just one of many such mods for the indie VR title, which gained a considerable following when it was released back in 2018.

Available on download-based services like Steam and the Oculus Rift’s online store, Blade and Sorcery is a fantasy sandbox game in which players utilize medieval weaponry and powerful magic to battle waves of enemies in virtual reality. The game has been praised for its realistic physics and weighty combat, and various mods have been created since its launch – including many that are set in the world of Star Wars.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user u/scrolling2654 posted a brief video clip of a lightsaber mod for Blade and Sorcery on the r/gaming subreddit last week, featuring several in-game characters battling each other using the iconic Star Wars weapon. The player, wielding a red blade often associated with the villainous Sith, goes to work cutting down the various Jedi Knights standing in his way one after another until he finally makes his escape by jumping off of the stone bridge that they are all battling on once he finds himself outnumbered. Check out the footage below:

This mod comes fresh off of rumors that Disney is working on a lightsaber-wielding VR game of their own as part of the High Republic Era-based Project Luminous, which promises to give fans a look at a previously unexplored time period of the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Before that, the closest players had to official lightsaber VR combat was in the Lightsaber Dojo section of 2019’s Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, which allowed them to practice their skills against the floating training droids Luke Skywalker sparred with during Star Wars: A New Hope, as well as the augmented-reality Star Wars: Jedi Challenges back in 2017.

For fans looking to unleash the power of the Force on a more difficult target, this Blade and Sorcery mod might be just the thing to scratch their Jedi-themed itch. The combat shown in the Reddit clip is reasonably faithful to the duels of the Star Wars saga (aside from some blood splatter that should not be possible with the super-heated blade of a lightsaber), not to mention displaying a level of dismemberment recent games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have shied away from. The mod is free to download, meaning players who already own Blade and Sorcery can jump into the lightsaber swinging fray whenever they wish.
