Warning: Contains spoilers for The Death of Doctor Strange: Blade #1

Marvel Comics’ greatest vampire hunter, Blade, has become an action icon since his first introduction and subsequent bloody adventures and he just got a costume upgrade. While his actions showed how cool Blade is as a character, his costume only added to that persona with his black tactical suit and leather trench coat giving him the look of a complete badass with the skillset to match. In his latest comic book adventure, however, Blade somehow gets an even cooler costume.

In TheDeath of Doctor Strange: Blade #1 by Danny Lore and Dylan Burnett, Blade is mourning Doctor Strange’s death along with the vampire community, with Blade recognizing a temporary truce between him and the vampires. In fact, Dracula himself gave Blade the go-ahead to be around vampires without fear of being attacked. However, a small group of blood-suckers decide the time to strike the day-walking vampire hunter is now, which leads to Blade and Dracula joining forces to keep them at bay.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

When the rogue vampires attack Blade and Dracula, Blade was attending a party put on by the Vampire King to which Dracula personally invited him. The only catch to the invitation was that Blade had to dress appropriately, meaning in formal attire rather than his iconic trench coat, tactical costume. Instead, Blade dresses in a full black suit with an open collar shirt and a red pocket square for a pop of color. Blade didn’t leave himself defenseless, however, as he wore on the back of his fitted suit a katana in a strapped sheath. Basically, Blade looked fine in this new outfit that also proved to be a practical superhero suit.

Blade’s latest suit is perhaps the coolest he has ever worn, and while his usual costume is arguably still his best, both are a far cry from the outfit in which he was introduced. Blade made his debut in The Tomb of Dracula #10 by Marvin Wolfman and Gene Colan. Upon his first appearance, Blade immediately proved to be an expert vampire hunter and a fantastic addition to the Marvel Universe. While Blade himself was cool, his costume was not. Equipped with a bright green jacket, a completely open undershirt with his full chest exposed, and yellow sunglasses, Blade’s first outfit was pretty lame and not the most practical for stalking vampires at night.

While his first costume wasn’t his best, Marvel made up for Blade’s debut look by giving him one of the coolest costumes in Marvel Comics. Now, Marvel has stepped up the game by giving Blade an even cooler costume than his iconic one, and hopefully it sticks around. With the combination of looks and functionality, this new costume should be worn by Blade again in the not-too-distant future as it is actually cooler than his leather trench coat look.
