Blade is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is getting his own movie as part of Phase 5, but details about his first solo adventure are still a mystery – however, some believe that Blade’s story will connect to Scarlet Witch, as he will go after her and the Darkhold. The MCU continues its expansion with its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which is bringing back previously introduced characters as well as new ones, and it already introduced a new team in Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, which brought big surprises in its post-credits scenes: Eros (Harry Styles) and Blade (Mahershala Ali), though the latter in a voice cameo.

Blade’s “appearance” in the post-credits scene of Eternals came as a surprise as there aren’t any real links between him, the title characters, and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), but it definitely left the audience wondering what his role in the future of the MCU will be. Blade was confirmed to be part of the MCU in July 2019 and Mahershala Ali was announced to be taking on the role, but details about the potential release of his first movie and what it will be about remain a mystery. However, his voice cameo in Eternals has now linked him to Dane Whitman/Black Knight, making way for different theories on what his role in the MCU will be.

Erick Cross Brooks a.k.a. Blade is a dhampir (creatures that are the result of the union between a vampire and a human) who has devoted his life to killing vampires around the world. In the comics, Blade has been part of different teams, including the Midnight Sons, who are rumored to be coming to the MCU thanks to Blade, Black Knight, Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), and Morbius (Jared Leto). With this in mind, a theory suggests that Blade is also going after Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) not only with the purpose of recruiting her but also of getting his hands on the Darkhold, which contains something quite useful to him: the Montesi Formula.

The Montesi Formula is a spell capable of destroying all vampires, but the effects of it are only temporary, meaning that once the spell is broken, the vampires who were destroyed are resurrected. The Montesi Formula is kept in the Darkhold, an ancient book of spells that played an important role in WandaVision, as Agatha Harkness (Katherine Hahn) was in possession of the book and it was later taken by Wanda, who was last seen studying it. A fan theory (via FandomWire), then, suggests that Blade will go after Scarlet Witch to acquire the Darkhold and with it the Montesi Formula, which would make his mission a lot easier, but as it’s highly unlikely that Scarlet Witch will give the book up, Blade could be looking into recruiting her as part of the Midnight Sons and have her cast the spell to get rid of the vampires.

In the comics, the Darkhold is also the reason why vampires exist, as during the Pre-Cataclysmic Era, followers of the dark sorcerer Thulsa Doom used a spell in the book to create the first vampire, Varnae – so the book holds not only the spell to create them but also to destroy them, even if just for a while. The Darkhold, then, could be a key element in Blade’s MCU history beyond the Montesi formula, which in turn makes way for a possible alliance between him and Scarlet Witch, and is a smooth way of making him part of the rest of the MCU.
