Hartigan Cosplay, who created an amazing cosplay of World of Warcraft‘s Bolvar Fordragon, has won BlizzCon’s Community Showcase awards for Best Cosplay and Best in Show. The Community Showcase lets fans show off their artistic creations such as cosplay and music. Categories include Weapons and Armor, Digital Storytelling, Art Contest and various categories of cosplay.

This year’s digital BlizzCon, dubbed BlizzConline, made attempts to preserve many of the event’s usual traditions and celebrations. A live performance from the heavy metal band Metallica was streamed live on Twitch, but the rockin’ celebration soon hit a snag. When the band performed their hit For Whom The Bell Tolls the streaming service replaced the audio with 8-bit music instead, presumably out of fear of upsetting the platform’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act service. The event otherwise went off without a hitch, though unfortunately much of the information announced during the various presentations was leaked ahead of the BlizzConline stream.

Blizzard has announced, via Twitter, that cosplayer Hartigan Cosplay has won the Community Showcase awards for Best Cosplay and Best In Show. The truly impressive piece of costume artwork transforms Hartigan into Bolvar Fordragon, a recurring World of Warcraft character with an extensive backstory and ties to several of the franchise’s factions. A video posted to Hartigan’s YouTube channel shows the long process of donning the Fordragon cosplay, which includes electronics which produce light and smoke effects.

Fantastic character designs often draw the attention of particularly skilled cosplayers who wish to recreate these iconic looks. Recently, a cosplay based on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us II was accurate enough to make the developer question whether they were seeing a cosplay or a screenshot of the game. Cosplayer Gull Sheer was able to transform themselves into a Clicker, a blind yet deadly enemy from the survival adventure series, and photographer Elon Levin captured the creature in motion.

An accurate cosplay takes a ton of patience, skill and commitment to both create and wear. Typically the more outlandish a character design is, the more difficult it is to recreate. However, Hartigan Cosplay was able to take an extremely fantastical character design and bring it to life flawlessly. The use of special effects used to capture the appearance of World of Warcraft‘s Bolvar Fordragon are nothing short of breathtaking, and Blizzard’s acknowledgement of these accomplishments helps the company to maintain and grow an extremely loyal fanbase.
