The Book of Boba Fett director Robert Rodriguez praises Jon Favreau’s brilliant Star Wars story structure in a new featurette. The upcoming Disney+ series is officially a spinoff of their very successful show The Mandalorian, which featured the beloved bounty hunter in a prominent supporting role in season 2. The Book of Boba Fett will consist of seven episodes and premiere on the streaming service on December 29.

While the Boba Fett character featured in the original Star Wars trilogy, The Mandalorian season 2 brought him back as portrayed by New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison, who played Boba’s genetic duplicate and pseudo-father Jango Fett in the prequel films. His return was a welcome surprise for fans of the franchise, not least because Boba was presumed dead after falling into a sarlaac pit in Return of the Jedi. The new series was confirmed in an end-credits sting by showing the bounty hunter take Jabba the Hutt’s old throne, teasing his effort to assume control over the crime lord’s former territory.

Now, in a new featurette released by the official Star Wars YouTube channel, The Book of Boba Fett stars and creative team hype up the legendary character finally getting his time in the spotlight. Among those to speak is Rodriguez, the filmmaker behind From Dusk Till Dawn, Spy Kids, and Sin City, who directed three of the show’s seven episodes after also helming The Mandalorian season 2 episode 6. He says executive producer Favreau’s “story structure was really brilliant, in that it was just overflowing with all things cool.” Check out the full featurette video below:

While fans are eager to see where The Book of Boba Fett goes with its iconic title character, the series is just the beginning of Disney+’s exciting lineup of Star Wars content. After audiences were mixed on the sequel trilogy but very enthusiastic about The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm made a decisive pivot to television, and shows centered on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor are expected to premiere in 2022 alongside season 3 of their flagship series. Additionally, anticipation is high for Ahsoka, another The Mandalorian spinoff this time following Rosario Dawson’s portrayal of the fan-favorite Jedi that previously had only existed in animated form.

Audiences have had to wait a year to see the fallout from The Book of Boba Fett tease, with the show’s premiere date now just one week away. Many potential viewers could be nervous, given the history of disappointment surrounding Star Wars projects, but with the creative team behind The Mandalorian collaborating again for this series, fans have reasons to be confident in the outcome. Should Disney’s long-term strategy pay off, those who maintain they mishandled the feature films might even be willing to let bygones be bygones.
