Bob’s Burgers Season 6: The 100th Episode May Be The Show’s Best

Bob’s Burgers season 6 episode 19 “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” marked an important milestone for the show, and could (arguably) be the best episode of the show to date. Bob’s Burgers follows the Belcher family who run a small burger restaurant. The family and the characters they interact with are a loveable bunch of oddballs and the show typically revolves around the plans of Bob himself, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin (Archer), backfiring in hilarious fashion.

While reviews for the first season were slightly mixed, later seasons of Bob’s Burgers would see the series find its voice and refine what worked. That’s one reason the show has such a loyal following nearly a decade after it began. The show is also set to receive a movie spinoff with the appropriate title Bob’s Burgers: The Movie, which is due for release in 2020.

Bob’s Burgers season 6 episode 19 “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” saw the series celebrate its hundredth episode. Rather than take the family on some kind of epic adventure, the premise finds Bob glued to the restaurant toilet in a prank gone wrong. Adding to his understandable distress is the fact a journalist from a food magazine is coming to do a piece. “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” sticks very much to the show’s formula of something going very wrong for Bob and the hilarious awkwardness that ensues. News of Bob’s sticky situation quickly spreads around town, and handyman Teddy tries to free him from the toilet before the interview crew arrives. This episode really dials up the humiliation for Bob, as pretty much every side character from the series, including rival Jimmy Pesto, Marshmallow, and Mort gather around to take a look.

In the end, things go from bad to worse as the interviewers arrive and a frustrated Bob angrily kicks them out. He finally frees himself from the toilet to the chants of everyone watching,  and his daughter Louise, who is the one who set up the prank, apologizes. Bob’s Burgers season 6 ends things on a positive note for a change, because, in spite of the intense humiliation he suffered, the magazine actually runs a story on the restaurant, which attracts new customers. An episode where the main character is glued to a toilet may not sound like an epic way to make episode 100, but “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” succeeds by doing what the show does best – combining heart with laughs.

The episode milks the central premise for all the cringe it can, even finding time for a bizarre musical number, but it doesn’t forget to inject heart too. After suffering humiliation and defeat on a regular basis, Bob’s epic rant feels cathartic, and it’s a nice ending that after such an ordeal, the glue incident actually works in Bob’s favor. Bob’s Burgers season 6 finale “Glued, Where’s My Bob” is the show at its best. It tells a simple story, but one that’s infused with a lot of laughs and just the right amount of sentimentality. Fans will have their own favorite episode, but there’s little denying episode 100 managed to capture the show at it’s best.
