Over its legendary run on television, Saturday Night Live has welcomed many great hosts, some of whom have become fixtures on the show like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. However, there are also those more recent hosts who have been so impressive that they will undoubtedly become returning favorites for years to come. One of those recent hosts is Tiffany Haddish.

Haddish hosted the show following the success of her comedy Girls Trip. While she has gone on to appear in a number of movies since then, SNL provided a unique opportunity to show off Haddish’s incredible talent as a performer. She brought so much energy and fun to her appearance and made every sketch better with her performance. Here are some of the highlights from her hosting gig.

9 Boo Boo Jeffries

In Haddish’s best sketch of her time hosting SNL, she plays the obscure video game character Boo Boo Jeffries. Kenan Thompson plays a player in a video game tournament playing a fighting game similar to Mortal Kombat. Unfortunately for him, he accidentally chooses Boo Boo Jeffries as his fighter.

Things really don’t look good for the character as her main fighting moves are just Rihanna and Beyonce dance moves. It gets worse when she reveals her strengths include her relationship with her mom while her main weakness is fighting. After taking one punch, Boo Boo just walks away.

8 The Last Black Unicorn

This sketch presents a fairy tale about the magical last Black Unicorn, a mystical creature that is about to see through time. Three young friends seek out the unicorn, played by Haddish, so they can learn their future. While things sound great for two of them, the unicorn has only bad news for the other friend.

The sketch is pretty simple and considering the premise of the fortune-teller unicorn, it seems like a little bit of a waste. But Haddish seems to have fun playing the unicorn and has a funny moment breaking character.

7 Get Woke With Tamika

The hilarious Leslie Jones stars in this sketch about a talk show that is supposedly all about discussing hot topics of the day. However, the host Tamika (Jones) seems more confused by the topics and easily frustrated which causes it to quickly go off the rails.

Haddish appears in the sketch as one of the guests on the show, but this is really Jones’ time to shine. She is great as the beleaguered host who has extended one-sided arguments with her producers as she attempts to figure out how to run a talk show.

6 Beck And Kyle

This pre-taped sketch delves into the behind-the-scenes drama at SNL. It centers around Beck Bennett who is sad that his best friend Kyle Mooney doesn’t have time for him anymore because of his relationship with Leslie Jones.

The sketch builds to a ridiculous masquerade ball in which Beck and Colin Jost join forces to break up Kyle and Leslie. This results in Kyle and Beck taking turns mercilessly beating Colin until Haddish steps in and beats him herself.

5 The Dolphin Who Learned to Speak

This is another pre-taped segment where things get really weird. The sketch is presented as a scientific documentary in which Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant play two scientists who look back on their attempts to teach a dolphin to speak.

When the dolphin begins getting distracted as it continues to mature, the scientists turn to some unorthodox methods of keeping him focused. Haddish plays a fellow scientist who is understandably horrified by what is going on in that lab.

4 Lion King Auditions

Some of the most popular sketches on SNL are the ones that allow the cast to try out a variety of celebrity impressions. The fake auditions for famous movies have become a great platform for this and The Lion King auditions provide some solid impressions.

Some of the celebrities seen auditioning for the Disney movie include Kit Harrington, Nick Offerman, and Oprah. Haddish nails a couple of impressions as Cardi B and Mary J. Blige which add to the fun of the sketch.

3 The Monologue

Haddish started her career in stand-up comedy so it’s not too surprising that she excelled at the opening monologue on SNL. Haddish comes out fully ready to deliver and unleashes a tight and hilarious stand-up set that touches on everything from her newfound success to Donald Trump.

But the funniest part is when she points out that the stunning dress she is wearing is a dress she already wore for several red carpet events. She explains that she spent a lot of money on the dress and she is going to wear it as much as possible. She even says she might wear it in some of the sketches.

2 Weekend Update

Though the hosts don’t usually make appearances on Weekend Update, Haddish did pop up in the news segment for the briefest of moments that was nonetheless memorable.

Chris Redd comes on to interrupt the jokes announcing the Haddish has made a request. He then sings an introductory song as Haddish confidently glides across the stage wearing the same dress from her monologue, fulfilling her promise that she would wear it again. Though she is only on stage for a few moments, Haddish continues to bring so much fun and energy to the show.

1 Whiskers R We

If we learned anything from Haddish time on SNL it’s that she and Kate McKinnon need to do a movie together. The two have wonderful chemistry as seen in this hilarious sketch. The duo play partners on a commercial, advertising their cat store.

The two cat-loving ladies advertise the various felines in stock with hilarious cat puns and strange asides. But the funniest part of the sketch is seeing the two actors trying to keep a straight face as they wrangle the untruly cats.
