Borderlands 3 Celebrates 2nd Anniversary With Limited-Time Event

The looter-shooter Borderlands 3 has officially turned two, and to celebrate, Gearbox is running limited-time mini-events over the next two days in honor of the game’s second anniversary. Freebies are also being given away, as players who participate will receive up to two SHiFT codes during the event that unlocks cosmetics and a diamond key.

Announced as the third entry in the franchise that kickstarted the looter-shooter genre, Borderlands 3 launched two years ago to a controversy regarding its exclusivity to the Epic Game Store. What followed however was a title with impressive scores that took the franchise’s formula and improved it to achieve the definitive version of its genre. Borderlands 3 continued to push this even further with post-launch content, which added two seasons’ worth of new content, totalling over 20+ hours of bonus material, excluding its limited-time events.

Posted as a series of tweets on the official Borderlands Twitter account, Gearbox has announced limited-time mini-events with goodies for Borderlands 3. The two events are Loot Monster Mayhem and a freebie at Maurice’s Black Market, both of which are available to participate in now and on September 15th. Starting with The Loot Monster Mayhem, this event will bring an increased variant of loot-based enemies, and managing to kill them will grant players extra goodies like the Bekah Assault Rifle and the Earworm Assault Rifle from 2019’s Boss Week. Meanwhile, the Maurice’s Black Market event is offering legendary freebies via a vending machine somewhere in a non-DLC location. Finally, Gearbox is offering up to two SHiFT codes during the limited-time anniversary event. The first code unlocks The Popsychle Cosmetics Pack for all playable hunters, which includes a Popsychle Vault Hunter skin, the Pain Freeze weapon trinket, and Field Trip Echo Device skin. Meanwhile, the second SHiFT code unlocks a free Diamond Key, giving players access to four items at the Diamond armory, one of which is a Legendary drop.

Since the release of Borderlands 2, Gearbox has been releasing dropping Borderlands SHiFT codes often. SHiFT codes for Borderlands 3 unlock Golden Keys for the Golden Chest, which contains some of the best possible loot in the game. Interested players are required to sign up for a Shift account to redeem these special codes, either in-game or online. The Diamond code for the limited-time anniversary appears to be unique to the Shift website with an expiration date. However, players also need to own the Borderlands 3‘s 2nd Season Pass and Director’s Cut DLC, which are both required to access the hidden armory to use the Diamond Key.

Borderlands 3‘s limited-time anniversary event is set for 48 hours, and its special SHiFT codes that grant free goodies are set to expire on September 30th. Players who are participating are required to act fast, as Borderlands 3‘s second-anniversary celebration is coming to an end.

Borderlands 3 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and PC.
