Borderlands 3 features a huge selection of DLC to expand the offerings of the main game. And “Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck” might be the craziest addition in the entire package. This story expansion features a deep dive into the twisted mind of everyone’s favorite psycho vault hunter, Krieg. Players will literally dive into his mind to try and figure out what makes it tick.

Throughout the several hours that the campaign lasts, players will encounter a wide variety of enemies both new and familiar. And one of the boss battles even has players facing off against two of the original vault hunters Brick and Mordecai. But what is the best strategy for taking down the evil incarnations of these classic heroes?

Defeating Brick and Mordecai in Borderlands 3’s Fantastic Fustercluck

Players won’t have to wait long to see if they have what it takes to best Brick and Mordecai. The pair is the first boss encounter of the DLC. As players make their way through Castle Crimson, they’ll pass several vending machines right before the boss battle. Take the time to restock before heading into the arena.

It won’t come as a surprise to learn that Evil Brick focuses on melee attacks, while Evil Mordecai prefers to stand back and fire his sniper rifle from a safe distance. Brick will spend most of his time chasing players around the combat space, trying to pummel the vault hunters into the ground, while Mordecai will repeatedly release attack birds and fire guns.

As if things weren’t bad enough, both bosses have moments of invincibility where they won’t take damage no matter what kind of holy terror is laid upon them. They tend to take turns, so at least one will be attackable, even will the other is impervious to damage. The tell for their invincibility phase is a bright red glow that covers them completely.

Taking them down can be a challenge because they are both bullet sponges. Players should focus on staying in motion. Brick wants to close the distance to do more punching, while Mordecai is always looking to line up a shot. Weapons with explosives and splash damage will help a great deal, as it’s possible to do damage to both with one shot, assuming they aren’t invincible at the moment. Additionally, a high-capacity shield can make the difference between certain death and victory.

In general, it’s best to take Brick out first. His constant pursuit can be difficult to manage. Additionally, Mordecai’s birds are easy to kill, which provides a good opportunity to get second winds. Once one is down, the other should follow pretty quickly after. The true difficulty is in the one-two punch of their combined close- and long-range attacks.

“The Fantastic Fustercluck” is a hilarious addition to Borderlands 3, and one every fan of the series should check out. Evil Brick and Mordecai are two of the toughest bosses in the DLC, so besting them will put players in a good position to make it through the rest of the story.
