Gearbox Software has detailed some of the new skill trees for Amara and FL4K that will come to Borderlands 3 as part of the upcoming Designer’s Cut DLC. The long-awaited third mainline entry in the looter-shooter series released last year to mixed reviews from critics but has remained popular enough with players to see a number of DLC expansions over the last few months.

The second season pass for Borderlands 3 is set to include two expansions in the form of the Designer’s Cut and the Director’s Cut. These DLC packs will attempt to update the title, switching up some of the gameplay mechanics rather than introduce new areas or missions. The Designer’s Cut is due to launch on November 10 with the Director’s Cut following at some point in 2021.

Borderlands 3 developer Gearbox has detailed some of the new skill trees coming to the game as part of the Designer’s Cut DLC. According to the studio, each Vault Hunter will get a brand new skill tree that will allow players to customize their builds even further. The first of the new skill trees is the Enlightened Force for Amara, which provide cryo elemental effects to freeze enemies in place. Meanwhile, the Phaseflare Action Skill produces an orb of energy that players can move around and throw into people like a bowling ball. On the other side, FL4K’s new Trapper skill tree gives access to a Loader Bot pet, which comes in variations for long and short distance fighting, and more advanced shield boosts. His fresh Action Skill is a Gravity Snare that throws enemies up into the air for a while before slamming them back to the ground.

Gearbox’s creative director Graeme Timmins went on to say:

“I can’t wait to see what kind of interesting shield-focused builds are made possible by the Trapper skill tree. The Loader Bots also contribute to a sense of cooperative play that really makes FL4K feel like a pack leader.”

Like many other games, Borderlands 3 will get an enhanced next-gen version for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Gearbox recently revealed that owners of the game are entitled to a free upgrade on the same family of console. This version of the title will support 4K resolutions and a frame rate of 60 FPS. Borderlands 3 will be available on both systems next month, with the game expected to release on the console’s launch day.

Despite the somewhat mixed critical reception, Borderlands 3 has proven to be a hit with players. Gearbox has already released a series of updates and expansions for the game, proving that there is a demand for additional content. The upcoming additions to the skill trees for each vault hunter should add some replay value to the game and entice back some players to try out the enhanced version.
