Terry Dubrow from E!’s Botched alleges an ex-patient is extorting him for $5 million. The reality TV doctor has a successful cosmetic surgery practice in Beverly Hills, California, which attracts patients from all over the world. The patient in question traveled from Texas to receive care from Dubrow.

Sandy Scroggins alleges that she was treated by Dubrow in July 2019 for a buttock lift with fat flaps. Dubrow claims he advised Scroggins of the multiple risks of complications from her particular procedure, and also recommended the need for post-operative medical care once she arrived back in her hometown in Texas. Dubrow asserts that his last communication with her was on October 25, 2019. Now, a year has passed, and Terry Dubrow alleges that his former patient sent him a 901-page pre-lawsuit document, claiming he was negligent in terms of providing her with treatment. The document including an accusation that he didn’t offer her a proper diagnosis or give her appropriate treatment for her multiple injuries. Scroggins then demanded $5 million. If she didn’t get it, she was going to file a federal lawsuit that would drag Botched into the fray, while also implicating Dr. Dubrow’s staff. Dubrow and his attorney Larry Stein have accused Scroggins of extortion, and he wants to have the matter dealt with in arbitration.

Scroggins’ lawyer Stephen Le Brocq told TMZ that Dubrow allegedly left surgical instruments inside of his client, and even accused the doctor of speeding through her procedure so he could continue shooting his series. Le Brocq said, “Instead of doing the right thing and accepting responsibility for his gross incompetence, he (Dubrow) makes claims of extortion.” Despite the issues, Dubrow hasn’t lost his sense of humor, as seen in the video below:

Botched made its debut on E! back in 2014. Now in its sixth season, the show is a mixed bag of plastic surgery mishaps, cautionary tales, and redemptive outcomes. Dubrow and his co-star Dr. Paul Nassif both got their first taste of television recognition when their spouses appeared on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Both have since built their own impressive fan followings, and have a roster of satisfied patients. The current controversy isn’t out of the ordinary for cosmetic surgeons. Each year, roughly 12.7 percent of these professionals face lawsuits from patients. However, in this instance, it’s the addition of targeting Dubrow’s show that has raised eyebrows… and called into question this patient’s true motives.

Terry Dubrow is in a precarious position. No reputable cosmetic surgeon wants patients to feel dissatisfied with their procedure outcomes. Given the fact that Botched is all about correcting mishaps from other surgeons, he’s likely to be especially concerned about these accusations. For her part, Scroggins needs to make sure that she followed the doctor’s after-care instructions. Some patients wind up undermining their procedures by not following up with physicians, post-op. Botched has attracted a motley crew of fame-hungry characters. It’s also provided hope to those who have been physically and psychologically damaged while working on their appearances. Hopefully, Scroggins’ alleged injuries are not causing her irreparable harm. Also, here’s hoping Dubrow is able to show that he isn’t the negligent doctor Scroggins says he is, so Botched fans can continue to enjoy these compelling stories for years to come.
