BOTW Fan’s Handmade Goddess Statue Is a Perfectly Magical Replica

A fan of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has recreated the game’s Goddess Statue in miniature form, with a highly detailed replica. In the original game, these ancient statues of the goddess Hylia are scattered all around Hyrule and used to raise BOTW Link’s maximum stamina and health. Visibly worn away by time, these statues can sometimes differ in appearance according to their location. The statue found in Kakariko Village, for example, wears a red bib as a subtle reference to Sheikah culture.

Video games can often serve as a great source of inspiration for creative fans, and Breath of the Wild is no exception. Whether it is the story, the characters, or even the setting, there is often something that appeals to artists of all mediums. The Legend of Zelda series as a whole has naturally been the source of an enormous amount of fan-made creations over the years. Although Link and Zelda are frequently the focus of such works, even enemy monsters enjoy attention from time to time. Previous impressive fan-made Zelda creations include Korok greetings cards, and one Twilight Princess fan even created a Darknut cosplay.

Adding to this ever-increasing array of artwork is Reddit user _edlothian_, who recently shared pictures of a positively magical replica of Breath of the Wild‘s Goddess Statue, small enough to be held in one hand. Considering its size, the statue is extremely detailed; moss and vines can be seen growing up from the base, while the facets of Hylia’s body and wings are clearly worn with age. They aren’t the only artist and BOTW fan to enjoy working in a physical medium. There are many other cosplayers, sculptors, and the like out there, even when looking amongst Legend of Zelda fans alone. For example, there is OliviaPare, a Reddit user who has made a number of Zelda-themed clay sculptures in the past. These include Beedle’s Breath of the Wild incarnation, as well as the evil titular artifact of Majora’s Mask. Their most recent sculpture is also of a villainous nature. Zant, the usurper king of the Twilight Realm from Twilight Princess, has been rendered as a sculpture that features a removable helmet.

Breath of The Wild creates a firm awareness of the past in many aspects of its setting and narrative. Link, having awoken from a century-long slumber, often comes across relics of the past in his journey. Here, more than any other Legend of Zelda game, players get a sense of just how old Hyrule really is. In the wake of the Calamity, the ruins of this kingdom can be seen slowly being reclaimed by nature. With that in mind, _edlothian_’s depiction of a timeworn Goddess Statue slowly being enveloped by wild plantlife encapsulates The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s atmosphere perfectly, making it it an extremely fitting tribute to this masterpiece of a game.
