Outer space does exist in The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, as one curious player discovered after blasting Link high above the stratosphere with nonstop explosive arrows. Nintendo’s latest main entry in the long-running Legend Of Zelda series has drawn considerable praise from fans for its detailed, open-world version of Hyrule, which has served as a creative playground for players looking to take a break from Link’s latest quest to reunite the ancient Champions of Hyrule and defeat the evil Calamity Ganon. There is so much to see and do in The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild that some players have even created humorous BOTW loading screen memes lamenting how easily distracted Link can be in exploring the vast landscape of Hyrule.

Even nearly five years after The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild first launched on the Nintendo Switch to near-universal acclaim, players are still uncovering wild details and gameplay touches within the realm of Hyrule. Some of these details are mundane in nature, like how sheep will naturally huddle together for warmth during a rainstorm, while others center around the behavior of enemies like its hulking Guardians and thieving Yiga Clan members. Players have even figured out many different ways to make Link’s journey easier, such as obtaining one of BOTW’s Shock Arrows by utilizing a jump exploit, or resetting the game’s day/night cycle to gain more time to grab fallen Star Fragments.

Reddit user ThornyFox recently shared an impressive Breath Of The Wild gameplay video, one that reveals that Nintendo included an “outer space” high above the sky of Hyrule. ThornyFox reached this upper orbit by having Link blast himself with explosive Bomb Arrows – apparently 70,000 times with help from the Inventory Corruption glitch. This sends the unlucky hero into the air and through the atmosphere, allowing viewers to see the star-filled void above Hyrule’s clouds before Link naturally goes plummeting back down to Earth – at least until ThornyFox starts blasting him again with more Bomb Arrows. ThronyFox’s post entry has already gained 17.5k upvotes, with commenters left amazed at the level of detail Nintendo has put into Breath Of The Wild.

The countless ways that players can explore Breath Of The Wild have helped it become one of the Nintendo Switch’s most successful first-party titles, selling over 27 million copies as of last year and being hailed by many as one of the greatest video games of all time. Nintendo announced a sequel to Breath Of The Wild during the E3 2021 livestream event last June, causing fans the world over to speculate on how this next installment will build on the solid foundation of the previous Zelda game. So far, official details surrounding the fan-titled Breath Of The Wild 2 have been relatively scarce, and despite rumors of Nintendo showing more of the game, the upcoming new Zelda was absent from TGA 2021.

In the meantime, the original Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wildcontinues to impress players with new discoveries well past its initial release date, which makes its version of Hyrule feel like a living, breathing world for fans to explore and protect. Link has now caught a glimpse of what lies beyond this world thanks to ThornyFox’s interstellar BOTW gameplay video, though one could imagine that the Hyrulean hero’s trip into outer space was incredibly painful.
