According to a recent report from Square Enix, Bravely Default 2 has sold almost one million units worldwide on the Nintendo Switch, putting the game on track to surpass its prequels. This news arrives just before the title is set to come out on Steam in September, which will likely bolster sales as the turn-based Japanese RPG series finds a new audience on the PC.

Initially released on February 26, 2021, Bravely Default 2 was praised for bringing classes and turn-based battles back to Nintendo systems, with reviews saying the game was a return to form for the turn-based RPG genre. However, players have criticized that the title was safe and did not take any risks with its storytelling, as it follows a sailor named Seth and three other protagonists looking to protect elemental crystals from corruption. Ultimately, though, it does not appear that these lackluster reviews held back Bravely Default 2 from becoming a commercial success.

First discovered on 4Gamer, translated and discussed in the ResetEra forums, and later reported by Nintendo Life, Bravely Default 2 has sold over 950,000 units worldwide as of August 27, 2021. Previous entries of the series, Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer have been released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS, and have sold one million and 700,000 copies, respectively, according to NeoGAF & BDFF. While it looks like Nintendo Switch copies of Bravely Default 2 will easily pass one million sold, the upcoming PC port will only add to those sales.

While 950,000 copies sold may not seem much compared to bigger and more recognizable Nintendo Switch titles, nearing the one million unit milestone is still an impressive achievement for the Bravely series. Fans of the JRPG title are happy to hear it, with many noting that it’s quite impressive for a minor JRPG to sell so many copies. Other players hope titles similar to the niche Bravely Default 2 have the same success.

Hopefully, the eventual sales figure announcement would lead to future titles in the Bravely series. For now, Bravely Default 2 is still going strong as the title has already crossed over to the Octopath Traveler mobile game. Fans can also listen to the Bravely Default 2s original soundtrack on Spotify while waiting for the game to release on Steam. Once it does, fans of the series will be eagerly waiting to see how the JRPG sells and whether its already impressive sales totals will climb even higher.

Bravely Default 2is available for Nintendo Switch and is coming to PC via Steam on September 2, 2021.
