Not only is Link a legendary hero destined to save the land of Hyrule from the hundred-year tyranny of a primal evil, but he’s also an unbelievably skilled chef. Quite how he managed to develop these skills remains unknown, but they certainly come in handy during his journey in Breath of the Wild.

From hearty surf-and-turf delights to unnecessarily decorative dessert confections, this incarnation of Link seems to be a bonafide foodie. There’s really no downplaying his abilities, and, following the Crypt of the Necrodancer tie-in, perhaps fans can expect a Legend of Zelda and Sushi Striker crossover.

Monster Cake

Monster Extract is said to be a “suspicious spice” and likely wouldn’t go well with dairy, but Link really seems to have outdone himself with the Monster Cake.

Apparently known for its sweetness, the Monster Cake, unfortunately, isn’t all that worthwhile, as it requires semi-uncommon ingredients like Goat Butter, and it’s only capable of refilling a few hearts. That said, it does look extremely tasty, and Link’s willingness to go the extra mile by decorating his cupcake with monster horns suggests that he’d be an excellent contestant on something like The Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship.

Gourmet Meat and Rice Bowl

An alternate take on the classic Meat and Rice Bowl, the inclusion of the word “gourmet” implies that this is a cut above the rest of Link’s cooking. While it requires some less-than-common gourmet meat, the recipe for the Gourmet Meat and Rice Bowl is easy to memorize and features quite a few variations.

From energizing and enduring to hasty and sneaky, the Gourmet Meat and Rice Bowl is a surprisingly versatile dish. Plus, players likely won’t’ have to go too far off the beaten path to collect the necessary ingredients for this dish.

Omelete

One of the most unassuming recipes in the Hero of Hyrule’s repertoire, many players will likely forgo the simple omelet in favor of cooking up something a bit more satisfying.

Yet, while it does next to nothing and isn’t particularly useful after the introductory hours of the game, Link’s breakfast-making skills look to be above average, to say the least. How he manages to get everything seen on the plate from a single bird egg remains a mystery, but it’s surely a testament to his amazing abilities as a chef.

Pepper Steak

Meant to heighten Link’s resistance to the cold, Breath of the Wild‘s Pepper Steak is the perfect meal for long adventures in the frigid regions of Hyrule. While eating peppers wouldn’t prove to be a very effective method of staving off the cold in the real world, Link’s dish, nonetheless, looks pretty delectable.

The Pepper Steak is incredibly easy to cook, as it only requires a spicy pepper and any kind of meat, though adding more peppers and a Hylian Shroom to the meal will result in a Spicy Pepper Steak, boosting the benefits of the recipe. Plus, if the image included is anything to go by, Link’s steak-searing abilities seem to be second-to-none.

Honey Candy

Link’s culinary prowess is well documented; he’s able to grill, bake, and concoct almost anything with a maximum of five ingredients and a surprising dearth of cooking utensils. Beyond that, he’s also able to make his own candy, seemingly circumventing a very particular process that’s often only possible in specially-equipped factories.

Made of courser bee honey, the multiple varieties of Link’s Honey Candy can offer major health and stamina benefits, and a single piece of his very best batches can sell for as much as 100 rupees.

Fairy Tonic

The Fairy Tonic is one of the most unique concoctions in Breath of the Wild; not only does it come in a custom piece of glassware, but it’s also one of only two elixirs capable of replenishing Link’s health, the other being the Hearty Elixir.

While previous Zelda games featured bottled fairies capable of reviving Link, BoTW turns them into ingredients. It’s hard to say what a fairy might do to a cooking recipe, but, based on its described fragrance, one would have to imagine that this elixir is particularly sweet.

Crab Stir-Fry

In previous Zelda games, crabs and crab-like creatures weren’t particularly common in the land of Hyrule. However, in Breath of the Wild, they’re positively abundant, albeit only in certain areas.

Mixing and matching crabs can lead to some interesting results, and, be they energizing, mighty, or tough, Link’s seafood cuisine looks absolutely delicious. That said, Link has a curious penchant for scarfing everything down in a single gulp, and consuming too many crab shells can’t be good for an adventurer.

Salt-Grilled Greens

Perfect for those who prefer to live and let live with Hyrule’s wildlife, Salt-Grilled Greens can be made by combining any of a number of vegetables, herbs, and flowers with rock salt. While Link is pretty obviously not grilling anything, the result looks nonetheless appetizing.

Again, this BoTW recipe can be achieved without the use of any animal products, and, as wild greenery isn’t difficult to come across, this makes things incredibly convenient. With ten variants offering an assortment of benefits, players are encouraged to experiment and see how many variations of this dish they can make.

Salmon Meuniere

One of the many meals meant to replenish some of Link’s health, the Salmon Meuniere is an overtly elaborate dish that most rugged adventurers aren’t likely to have packed. Not only does it require some serious culinary know-how, but it also calls for hearty salmon, which are some of the most difficult resources to find in Breath of the Wild.

According to the item’s description, food made with hearty salmon lands in “a class of its own,” and, judging by the associated image, Link seems to know how to best use these rare ingredients.

Gourmet Meat and Seafood Fry

Another of Link’s gourmet dishes, the Gourmet Meat and Seafood Fry is the result of cooking either raw gourmet meat or a raw whole bird together with any kind of seafood. When it comes to cooking, this is one of Link’s more resource-intensive dishes, but it’s presumably extra delicious and therefore worth the trouble.

Loaded with delicately tended delicacies, this looks like the kind of meal that couldn’t be eaten without first setting a table and lighting a few candles, and it’s a dish most fans would be all over were they given a chance to try it.
