A signature feature of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is its mounts. Hyrule is very large, and traversing the kingdom on foot would make Link’s journey even longer than it already is. While Link can ride things other than horses in BOTW, equestrian mounts tend to be the go-to since they can be broken and stabled. There are also special horses in the game with quests tied to them, such as one that bears a striking resemblance to Ganondorf’s steed.

The most recognizable appearance of Ganondorf’s horse is probably in Ocarina of Time. Ganondorf appears mounted outside of the Castle Town Market gates in Link’s dream during the game’s opening cutscene. The dream becomes prophecy when Link later brings the three Spiritual Stones to the Temple of Time in Ocarina, and encounters Ganondorf mounted atop his black and red horse. Though Ganondorf is not seen mounted again, the spectral horse during the Phantom Ganon boss fight in the Forest Temple bears the same resemblance.

Ganondorf also rides his horse in Twilight Princess, and this version of the horse is much closer in size to the Giant Horse in Breath of the Wild, presumed in BOTW to be Ganandorf’s horse. The color of the Twilight Princess horse’s mane and tail are not quite as vibrant as in Ocarina or those of the Giant Horse in Breath of the Wild, but its coat is a similar black. Breath of the Wild doesn’t have a humanoid Ganondorf, with Calamity Ganon ruling over Hyrule instead. Unless the Giant Horse has lived for over 100 years, it’s more likely that it could be a descendant of a horse Ganondorf may have ridden before Breath of the Wild.

Where To Find (Probably) Ganondorf’s Giant Horse

This exceptionally large mount can be found in the Taobab Grassland west of Lake Hylia. Unique trees populate the valley of the Taobab Grassland, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s Giant Horse can be found in a herd of its regularly sized counterparts. There is a side quest dedicated to the Giant Horse, which can be started at the Mounted Archery Camp in the Faron Grasslands southwest of Lake Hylia.

Breaking the Giant Horse and taking it to a stable is no mean feat, requiring a considered effort, but will grant it special horse gear which completes the Ganon ensemble. The horse has a very dark coat, with bright orange mane and tail, giving it the same color scheme as Ganondorf himself. There’s no official confirmation in the game that its Ganon’s horse, but certainly fits the bill, since Ganondorf is usually very tall, and the horse resembles those Ganondorf has ridden in previous games.
