One ingenious – and annoyed – player of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has found a way to use the final boss to destroy flowers. The flowers are part of one of the more frustrating Shrine Quests in the game. By abusing the version of the world map used for the final battle, it’s possible to destroy the flora and do what the game otherwise refuses to let you do.

One of Breath of the Wild’s 42 Shrine Quests is called “Watch Out for the Flowers.” Link needs to approach the Hila Rao Shrine, which is surrounded by a spiral garden. A woman nearby, Magda, will scold Link if he walks on the plants. The second misdemeanor will result in her bursting into tears. If Link treads on the flowers three times, Magda will fly into a rage and beat Link within an inch of his life. The strictness of this Breath of the Wild quest, alongside Magda’s reactions, has made the mission notorious among players. Magda has even been given the nickname “Flowerblight Ganon,” after the other Blight Ganons fought throughout the game.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A Reddit user by the name Teh_Cactus_Plant uploaded a video showing them destroying the garden during the boss fight against Dark Beast Ganon. For this fight, a version of Hyrule Field is used with all NPCs, Guardians, and other enemies removed. Because Magda is gone, Link can wreak havoc and seek revenge without fear of repercussion.

The fan response has been overwhelmingly positive, with most of the comments praising Teh_Cactus_Plant for getting their revenge. Some commenters joked about how, even during the climax of the game, Link still couldn’t avoid getting distracted. A few even asked how they could do this in their own game. (It requires either hacking or glitching out of the Dark Beast Ganon “arena.”) It has also received 9,680 upvotes as of this writing.

It is strange that, in a game full of so many frustrating mini-games, side quests, and boss fights, a rather innocuous challenge such as Magda’s has elicited such a response. Compare to the more esoteric riddles issued by Kass, Hila Rao Shrine is fairly straightforward. But “Watch Out for the Flowers” has proven itself to be memorable. While Breath of the Wild fans almost unanimously agree that her mission is annoying, the widespread Breath of the Wild memes shows it’s beloved in its own way. Flowerblight – or Magda, rather – is the character that players love to hate. This video is just the latest evidence that her legacy will continue to torment the fandom.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
