The creator of Bridgerton, Chris Van Dusen, has signed on to help write the new TV series adaptation of the young adult novel, They Both Die At The End. The New York Times bestseller written by Adam Silvera follows a world in which a program called the “Death-Cast” tells people the day they’re going to die. The two main characters, Mateo and Rufus, are both told they will die on the same day, and the strangers decide to take a chance on a new friendship in order to fill their final moments with adventure.

Now, Deadline reports that Entertainment One has bought the rights to the novel for a series adaptation that will be co-written by Van Dusen and Silvera with Van Dusen also executive producing. Drew Comins will be executive producing alongside Van Dusen, and their studios, Creative Engine Entertainment and CVD Productions, respectively, will also be involved. The novel centers on queer Latinx characters and is the first YA novel to hit No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list while doing so.

It’s clear from Bridgerton‘s season 1 success that Van Dusen knows how to structure a series and pull on the audience’s heartstrings. This, along with the opportunity to cast and center queer Latinx actors, as well as the novel’s popularity (it was the best selling YA novel of 2021), should create a premiere with a wide audience that is engaged. Further announcements regarding who will play Mateo and Rufus will have to be followed as production on They Both Die At The End continues.
