Brie Larson addresses her future as Captain Marvel in the MCU by winking at trolls. Debuting in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers has some of the most interesting introductory set-up in the franchise, after Nick Fury paged her on the heels of Thanos’ snap in Infinity War. Since appearing in her origin story, Larson has appeared in Avengers: Endgame and twice more in Phase 4, via cameos in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel. Now, she’s slated to front Nia DaCosta’s The Marvelsalongside Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

Beyond that, however, it’s uncertain where else Captain Marvel could pop up. It is no secret that since debuting as Carol Danvers, Larson has dealt with her fair share of trolls online, who criticize just about her every move. Despite this, she has forged ahead and stayed committed to her professional and personal endeavors. The actor has felt very strongly about setting a great example for young girls, and playing Captain Marvel is the most effective way to do that, especially as she forms a new team in The Marvels.

However, when asked how long she will continue to play Captain Marvel in the MCU by Variety after Marvel Studios’ D23 Expo panel, in which The Marvels was a key focus, Larson has an interesting response. At first, she is coy with her answer, claiming she doesn’t know, and then poses a question herself about whether there are people who want to see her portray Captain Marvel again. Check out her quote below:

I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again? […] I don’t know, I really don’t know. I don’t have an answer to that.

Despite saying she is unaware of what the future holds for Captain Marvel beyond DaCosta’s upcoming film, Larson revealed thatThe Marvels will start Carol Danvers’ new arc. This means that whatever she goes through in the project will be a launching pad for what’s next for her in the Multiverse Saga. Since plot details for The Marvels are still scant at the moment, it’s difficult to gauge how this is going to pan out, but it’s safe to say that, at the very least, Larson will be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Aside from the fact that it’s being directed by her frequent collaborator, Destin Daniel Cretton, Carol Danvers is also expected to be one of the new faces of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes post-Infinity Saga.

Larson has never backed down from trolls coming her way. While she didn’t explicitly talk about them and her experience dealing with them, the way she answered is her way of addressing those detractors, who have been pushing for Captain Marvel to either be recast or sidelined in the MCU. Unfortunately for them, aside from the fact that Larson is mostly unbothered by them, Marvel Studios also doesn’t care about their bad-faith opinions.
