Brock was one of Ash Ketchum’s best friends and travel companions throughout Pokémon. Brock was the Gym leader at the Pewter City Gym, specializing in Rock-type Pokémon, and he embarked on his adventures with Ash in pursuit to become a Pokémon breeder.

While he wasn’t known for being an incredible battler, Brock did have some very powerful Pokémon on his team throughout the series. These are the best Pokémon that Brock brought with him on his adventures, taking into account their base stats, possible move sets, number of weaknesses, and overall usage in Brock’s team throughout Pokémon.

Vulpix

After Brock left his role as Pewter City Gym Leader to go on his journey with Ash, his new goal was to become a Pokémon breeder and really understand how to care for Pokémon properly. Brock’s first Pokémon that he really tried to practice this new way of training with was with Vulpix.

While Brock never used Vulpix in a battle aspect, Vulpix was still a fundamental part of Brock’s team throughout the early regions in Brock’s quest to become a Pokémon breeder. Vulpix doesn’t have the most impressive battle stats with a base stat total of 299, its highest being Speed and Special Defense. Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokémon, which makes it vulnerable to Water, Rock, and Ground moves.

Geodude

When thinking about Brock’s Pokémon team, viewers always think of his dual Rock/Ground-type, Geodude. Geodude was a staple in Brock’s team all throughout Pokémon from the very beginning when Brock was the Gym Leader.

With base stats at 300, Geodude is a solid battle option considering it is only a first form on the evolutionary chart. Its Physical Attack and Physical Defense are Geodude’s highest stats that make it worthy of being used in battle, however, the rest of its stats are not very good. Geodude doesn’t have a very diverse set of moves that it can learn, but it can be taught Fire-type moves which allow it to combat some of its weaknesses such as Grass, Steel, and Ice.

Croagunk

Croagunk was added to Brock’s team when he and Ash traveled to the Sinnoh region. Croagunk was used quite a bit in battle by Brock and the two of them developed a strong relationship. Anytime Brock would flirt with a girl, Croagunk would pop out of its Pokeball and hit Brock with a Poison Jab and ruin the mood in a comedic fashion.

Croagunk is a dual Poison/Fighting-type Pokémon with base stats totaling at 300. It has good Attack and Special Attack, solid Speed, and decent defensive stats, making it a well-rounded Pokémon. It isn’t as strong as its evolved form but is still a viable option in battle and doesn’t have too many weaknesses.

Sudowoodo

Sudowoodo is an iconic Generation 2 Rock-type Pokémon that Brock caught in the Hoenn region during the show. This Pokémon is deceiving because it looks like a tree, most would expect it to be a Grass-type, not Rock.

Sudowoodo is a solid Pokémon with a base stat total of 410. Its Physical Attack and Defense are its strongest attributes by far, however, Sudowoodo suffers from a very low Speed stat. Due to Sudowoodo’s Rock-typing, it has a lot of weaknesses which doesn’t make it the best option for battles. Sudowoodo does make up for its long list of weaknesses by being able to learn a variety of moves like Rock, Fighting, Grass, Ground, Dark, and Normal.

Forretress

Dual type Bug and Steel Pokémon Forretress is a force on the defensive end with an extremely high Physical Defense stat. Forretress’ Base stats total 465 and it has a good Physical Attack and solid Special Attack and Defense. Its Speed however is its downfall which can make Forretress a little bit of a liability in competitive play.

Forretress does have the benefit of being able to learn a diverse set of move types, including Electric, Steel, Bug, Grass, Dark, Normal, Ground, Rock, and Fighting. Forretress was a trusted battle companion of Brock’s that traveled with him through all the regions until they went to Sinnoh and Brock sent Forretress back to the Pewter City Gym.

Marshtomp

Brock’s main Pokémon that he used in battle throughout the Hoenn region was the powerful Marshtomp, whom he evolved from Mudkip.

Marshtomp is a dual Water/Ground-type Pokémon that has a base stat total of 405. While other Pokémon in this list have higher base stats, Marshtomp played a bigger role in Brock’s team and won more battles than the Pokémon mentioned before. Marshtomp also benefits from only having one weakness, Grass, and is immune to Electric-type moves that typically wipe out other Water-type Pokémon. Marshtomp has pretty well-rounded stats and could go either way of Special or Physical Attack, although the edge goes slightly to Physical. In the show, Brock’s Marshtomp never did evolve into its powerful final form, Swampert, but if it had, Brock’s team would have been a force to reckon with.

Ludicolo

Ludicolo is the final form of Lotad, a dual Water/Grass type Pokémon from the Hoenn region. Ludicolo was one of Brock’s most valuable members of his team, not just in a fighting aspect but also as a friend.

Ludicolo is a rather powerful Pokémon with a base stat total of 480. Ludicolo’s stats are very balanced, but its Special Attack and Special Defense really shine. As a dual-type, Ludicolo has weaknesses to Poison, Flying, and Bug and can learn a wide variety of types of moves, making it a good option for battles. Ludicolo also has two cool abilities as well that either increase its Speed or HP in the rain. Brock eventually sent Ludicolo back to Pewter City after Ludicolo developed a strong bond with Brock’s siblings due to its playful and comedic personality.

Crobat

One of Brock’s first Pokémon he ever caught was a Zubat. That Zubat evolved into a Golbat and then eventually evolved into the speedy Flying/Poison dual-type Pokémon, Crobat, which can only be done by having high friendship with its trainer. Crobat definitely adds some much needed speed in Brock’s team, which usually has high defensive stats. Crobat has a base stat total of 535, Speed being the highest at 130 followed by its Physical Attack at 90.

Due to the fact that Crobat is a Posion/Flying-type, it suffers from being weak to four types, Electric, Ice, Rock, and Psychic. Crobat can however learn moves that can combat three of the four, making it a great option in battle. Crobat is one of the Pokémon that joined Brock on many adventures through multiple regions and developed a very strong bond with its trainer, which is always important when looking at good Pokémon to use in battle.

Steelix/Onix

Brock’s most iconic and most powerful member of his team would be Steelix, which was evolved from Onix. Onix was Brock’s first Pokémon, which he received from his father, and has been a staple on his team ever since. While Brock was leader at the Pewter City Gym his Onix was the toughest Rock-type Pokémon for challengers to defeat. When Onix evolved into Steelix it became an even stronger Pokémon and completely different type.

Steelix is a Steel/Ground-type Pokémon that can learn a very diverse set of moves, giving it good coverage to combat its weaknesses. Steelix’s base stat total is 510, Physical Defense being its highest stat by far at a whopping 200. Steelix’s other stats aren’t the greatest, but this Steel snake can still pack a punch.
