After 7 seasons of fun, laughter, and valuable lessons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is finally coming to an end with a final eighth season. For the past years, the audience followed along on the journey of one of the best police squads, working out of the 99th precinct in New York. Years filled with laughter, tears, love, heartbreak, ridiculous bets, hilarious games, and crazy heists. And through it all, a group of friends working together and supporting each other.

As fans come to the sad realization that there won’t be a Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 9, episode 9 that they can aptly call “Nine-Nine” as the characters so fondly refer to their precinct, there’ve been questions on how the show will wrap up and if some of the long-standing questions will finally be answered.

10 Does Amy Finally Become Captain?

From the first season, Amy’s goal was to become a captain. Her dedication to achieving this goal resulted in an obsession with work and with Captain Holt, whom she wanted to be her mentor. It was the subject of long-running gags with the rest of the squad but also quite inspiring to watch.

In season 5, Amy took a step further towards her goal when she took and aced the Sergeant exam. With only 1 season left to air, there may not be enough time to show her full journey towards becoming Captain, but hopefully, the show will answer that question in some way.

9 Does Holt Become Commissioner?

Similar to Amy, Holt aspired to advance his career and even ran for commissioner at one point. Unfortunately, a fellow competitor, John Kelly, got the position only to be later removed after Holt, Wuntch, and the squad discovered and proved he was corrupt. Wuntch took John’s place and held the position until she died, leaving the mantle with someone else.

Perhaps now, Holt has another shot at becoming Commissioner? In the pilot, he told the squad that he was the first gay Black man to have his own command, and attaining the position of commissioner is very important to him because it means another essential moment in history and a massive victory for someone who was always sidelined because of who they were.

8 Is Gina’s Empire Flourishing?

Gina Linnetti was a strong presence in the show for most of 6 seasons. She always had an epic line that sometimes didn’t make sense but was always funny. While she wasn’t a cop herself, she was as much a part of the squad as any of the others and she never let them forget it. From advocating for the Halloween Heist prize plaque to read “Amazing Human/Genius” rather than “Amazing Cop/Genius,” to her t-shirts and hoodies printed “Gina Told You So” or “Gina Knows Best.”

After the birth of her child, Gina decided she wanted to pursue a different path and leave her job as Holt’s personal assistant. During her last appearance on the show, Gina was now a motivational speaker with a unique brand of motivation and advice for her G-Hive. She was never mentioned again beyond that and fans are still wondering how she’s doing now.

7 Who’s Holts New Assistant?

When Gina quit, she left a huge void in the squad, especially for Holt who had trouble getting a new assistant to replace her. In season 6 episode 7, “The Honeypot,” Jake pointed out that Holt was being too picky and offered to find his new assistant for him since he was the one who brought Gina in before. That led them to Gordon Lundt, who was so similar to Holt in character and mannerisms that he would have been perfect as his assistant, if not for the small issue of him being a spy for the then Commissioner, John Kelly.

Beyond that, the show never really showed if Holt got anyone else as his assistant. It wouldn’t make sense for someone in his position not to have one at all, so hopefully, a new member will be introduced to the squad before the series ends. While there can never be a perfect replacement for Gina, whoever takes her place may become an important part of the squad too, however briefly.

6 Does Rosa Finally Find Love?

Rosa is one of the show’s fan-favorites, with her cool leather jackets, even cooler motorcycle, and a penchant for pulling out the scariest, craziest, and most random weapons from her desk or pockets. In season 5, Rosa was courageous enough to tell the squad that she was bisexual and they were nothing but supportive of her, especially at a time when her parents were finding it hard to come to terms with it.

During the course of the show, Rosa dated a variety of both men and women, from her former fiancé Pimento to Jocelyn Pryce, one of her long-term relationships. Unfortunately, season 7’s “The Jimmy Jab Games II” revealed that Rosa and Jocelyn had broken up and she was quite torn up about it. If anyone deserves a happy ending, it’s definitely Rosa, and hopefully, she finds the love of her life in the final season.

5 Do Hitchcock & Scully Finally Take Their Health Seriously?

Although they’re the precinct’s veteran detectives, who were surprisingly brilliant in their heydays as a flashback showed, Hitchcock and Scully haven’t had much to show for themselves in the way of police work. Apart from the occasional case they’ve solved (most times, accidentally), the two have closed more empty pizza boxes than cases throughout the show and it’s surprising that they’re even still part of the squad.

The show consistently poked fun at their terrible eating habits and the state of their health, but other than an insanely large pill box Scully showed off during the seventh season’s Jimmy Jab games, they don’t seem to take their health seriously. Perhaps that might change at the end of the season?

4 How Will Jake & Amy Handle Parenthood?

Both Jake and Amy are passionate about their jobs in law enforcement, which is one of the reasons Jake cited that having a baby would be difficult for them. He eventually came around to the idea and in the season 7 finale, Amy gave birth to their son, Mac.

Now, the question remains; how will they balance parenthood and their highly demanding jobs? Not to mention, Amy dreams of being Captain someday. Will she put that dream on hold in the meantime to focus on parenting, or will she and Jake find a way to make it all work?

3 Will Charles Ever Win A Halloween Heist?

Halloween Heists are one of the show’s best traditions and well-loved by fans. The games bring out everyone’s competitive side, making them into players who will stop at nothing to beat the others.

In some heists, the squad teamed up to even the odds but that only ended with betrayal and backstabbing. Charles always lost this way and even individually. Of the main squad, he’s the only one who hasn’t secured a win, aside from Scully and Hitchcock. If there’s a final heist in season 8, maybe Charles finally wins it.

2 Why Does Terry Love Yogurt So Much?

It’s a well-known fact that Terry loves yogurt. In fact, his love of yogurt worked against him during one particular Halloween Heist when several members of the squad gave him yogurt with a tracking chip hidden inside. Terry, being preoccupied with his favorite treat, hardly noticed the trackers at all.

Although this detail about Terry was in the show from the first season, there wasn’t any backstory about it, unlike a lot of revelations about him. Considering the show gave epic reveals about Hitchcock and Scully and why they started overeating junk food, it would be fun to see the reason for Terry’s love of yogurt.

1 Will The Show Address #BLM?

Apart from fun, games, and laughter, Brooklyn Nine-Nine also teaches valuable lessons in the middle of all the comedy. Whether it’s about discrimination or other serious issues, the show doesn’t shy away from the important topics.

In light of the #BlackLivesMatter movement highlighting racial profiling and police brutality, cop shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine have to reevaluate the message they’re putting out. What that means for season 8’s storylines remains to be seen.
