In a new solicitation for DC Comics’ February comics, Bruce Wayne’s first costume as a vigilante is revealed (years before he would become Gotham City’s Batman). Featured in cover art for the upcoming Batman: The Knight miniseries, Bruce Wayne’s new suit from the past marks his first steps as he evolves into the hero he’ll become in the present. Furthermore, it looks as though one of his first attempts at dispensing justice was in Paris, France.

Coming from Daredevil writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Carmine Di Giandomenico, Batman: The Knight will feature Bruce Wayne as a young man, leaving Gotham City to train and gain the skills he needs to become Batman upon his eventual return home. While past comics have featured brief looks into Bruce Wayne’s training, The Knight will reportedly be the definitive story that will reveal his journey in full as he transforms into one of the biggest superheroes of all time.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, the new DC Comics solicitations for February have revealed the cover art for Batman: The Knight #2. Coming from artist Riccardo Federici, Bruce Wayne can be seen wearing an all-black suit with a scarf to mask the lower half of his face. Furthermore, he’s also wearing what looks to be the beginnings of a utility belt which will no doubt grow over time as he gains more tools in his arsenal. Here’s the new cover art and synopsis for the upcoming issue (courtesy of Gamesradar):

  • BATMAN: THE KNIGHT #2
  • Written by CHIP ZDARSKY
  • Art and cover by CARMINE DI GIANDOMENICO
  • Variant cover by RICCARDO FEDERICI
  • $4.99 US | 40 pages | $5.99 US Variant (Card stock)
  • ON SALE 2/15/22
  • Bruce Wayne’s journey toward becoming the Dark Knight has begun, and he has many hard lessons to learn before his education is complete. His adventure begins in the City of Lights, Paris, where he’ll train with a world-renowned cat burglar and come into contact with a horrifying serial killer stalking the city’s wealthy elite…

According to the synopsis, it seems as though young Bruce Wayne’s vigilante career will begin in the midst of his ongoing training. While he’ll be facing a serial killer and developing his skills in Paris, at least he’ll already have a costume to keep his identity secret (with the Bat-motif coming much later).

In any case, BatmanThe Knight looks as though it’s going to be an intense and exciting ride. Not only will the new series feature Bruce Wayne during a time in his life that’s rarely been shown, but this new preview teases that he’ll already be a seeker of justice years before he makes his vow to become a bat. Furthermore, it’s also going to be pretty cool seeing the future Batman wearing such a simple (yet effective) costume as a young vigilante trekking the globe.
