The first major content update for Bugsnax will go live as The Isle of BIGsnax in early 2022 for PC, PS4, and PS5 platforms, Young Horses revealed during today’s State of Play presentation. Young Horses teased new content for Bugsnax a couple of months ago, while also confirming a Steam release for an unspecified date next year.

Bugsnax hit the Epic Games Store, PS4, and PS5 late last year, inviting players to join a Pokémon-style adventure on a remote island swarming with edible creatures. Consuming these yummy creatures inhabitants doesn’t just provide Snaktooth Island residents with a healthy amount of sustenance, though. The adventure title’s more body horror aspects additionally result in the snax transforming people, or Grumpuses in this case, into the food. A character eats a Bunger and suddenly they have burger fists. It brings new meaning to the phrase “you are what you eat.” And it seems Young Horses isn’t finished exploring the eerie concepts behind Bugsnax.

The latest State of Play featured the first details about a free content update that’s coming to Bugsnax in 2022. Titled The Isle of BIGsnax, the update will introduce a “smorgasbord of content,” according to the Young Horse’s PlayStation Blog post. Notably, the fresh offerings will unleash another biome, previously Bugsnax to capture, 30 quests, 100-plus challenges, and about 200 decorations for players to collect and display. Better yet, players can expect to use some of the decorations in their all-new hut, Young Horses teased in a separate news release. Get a glimpse at all of the above and more in the following reveal trailer for The Isle of BIGsnax.

As seen in the above video, a few of the new Bugsnax are what Chandlo so eloquently referred to as “Giant Bugsnax.” These supersized beasts surfaced from the bottom of the ocean, then washed ashore on a mysterious island. Clearly, another Bugsnax mystery awaits.

Founded in 2011, Young Horses released its debut game, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, in 2014 on consoles and PC. The quirky gameplay and bizarre quickly captured the imaginations of players. Suffice it to say, that same level of charm found its way into the equally quirky and bizarre Bugsnax.

Bugsnax is available now on PC via the Epic Games Store, PS4, and PS5; The Isle of BIGsnax update should arrive sometime in early 2022.
