Sony unveils the first Bullet Train trailer revealing the first look at the Brad Pitt-led thriller and seemingly announcing the full trailer date. Based on Kōtarō Isaka’s novel Maria Beetle, published in English territories under the film’s title, the story revolves around assassins Ladybug, Prince, Kimura, Tangerine, Lemon and Hornet as they embark on the titular vehicle in Japan with individual target assignments. However, as they venture towards their destinations, the assassins realize their targets are all interconnected and must contest with one another to complete their assignments and get out alive.

Alongside Pitt, the ensemble cast for Bullet Train includes Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Masi Oka, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, Bad Bunny and Sandra Bullock. Development on the film was first announced in mid-2020 when Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch signed on to helm and produce the adaptation with his wife and production partner Kelly McCormick and Antoine Fuqua and Pitt attached to star the following month. Production on Bullet Train would run from October 2020 to the following March and is gearing up to hit theaters in July.

With just a few months remaining until the film’s arrival, Sony (via Fandango) have released the first Bullet Train trailer. The video, narrated by Brad Pitt, is set up as an advertisement for the company behind the titular vehicle before revealing the first look at the Oscar winner’s central character and a potential date for the official trailer’s release. The first Bullet Train trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of insight for the story or action to come from the thriller, but it is a clever bit of marketing to draw intrigue for the film. Disguising itself as an idyllic travel ad works towards establishing the film’s Japan setting and is convincingly edited to appear as such, with Pitt’s narrating voice proving just subtle enough to hide the video’s true intention. The ultimate reveal of Pitt’s character at the end of the Bullet Train trailer proves to be an interesting one given his beat up appearance and the seeming sunrise he appears to be watching outside of the train.

While character details are still largely unknown for the film, the motif of an assassin watching a sunrise has largely connected to those who find themselves reflecting on their lives and contemplating getting out of the business. With the Bullet Train trailer only offering a brief glimpse of Pitt’s character in the film, one can only speculate to the state of his assassin in the moment and how he fares against the other assassins on board. The wait for the first proper look at the film may not be long as the official Bullet Train trailer is seemingly set to premiere on March 2, as hinted in the video.
