Buzz Lightyear gets a Flavortown-twist on his look and catchphrase in this hilarious mashup with Guy Fieri. The character from the Toy Story franchise has been lighting up social media since Pixar dropped the teaser trailer for his upcoming origin-story, LightyearThe computer-animated film is scheduled to release in the US on June 17, 2022.

As opposed to focusing on the toy version of Buzz that fans have come to love since his first appearance in 1995, Lightyear will focus on the in-world human character who inspired the merchandise. The project’s initial announcement at last year’s Disney Investor Day, when it was confirmed that Captain America actor Chris Evans would voice the titular character instead of Toy Story‘s Tim Allen, had fans reeling over the idea that there was a real Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s universe. The anticipation was such that the Lightyear teaser garnered 83 million views in just 24 hours, the animation studio’s second-highest total behind The Incredibles 2.

As a result of this explosion in interest, plenty of great Lightyear memes have been shared on social media, and one particularly funny example from Twitter user Flavortown took advantage of his resemblance to a particular Food Network icon. All it took for human-Buzz to resemble Fieri was switching out his simple hairdo with frosted tips, adding a beard, and editing in some sunglasses resting on his forehead. The new look also comes with a hybridized catchphrase – “To Flavortown, and beyond!” Check out the original post below:

While Fieri might be a surprise choice for a Lightyear crossover, others have a shorter leap in logic, such as turning Buzz into Evans’ character from Knives Out. Indeed, the fact that the character has hair at all has thrown many Toy Story fans for a loop, with many having spent years believing that his purple spacesuit-skullcap was just what his head looked like. With the film still a few months out, and more trailers likely on the way, industrious viewers still have plenty of time to create new ways to mess with human Buzz’s face.

While it’s great to see people having fun with the new Lightyear footage, the meme-making seems to come from a place of genuine interest, as the teaser’s more grounded look at space-travel might not have been what audiences were expecting from a Toy Story spinoff. Some of the ship design seems to tease a world that eventually reaches the interstellar pleasure-cruise-exile of WALL-E, and with nods to movies like The Empire Strikes Back, it’s clear that humans are not alone in the Pixar universe. While it’s unlikely that Buzz hits any diners or dives while on his mission in uncharted space, a return to Andy’s beloved Pizza Planet doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.
