A recent leak hints that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare might be the latest last-gen game to get an update for the PlayStation 5. While the 2019 military shooter is already playable on Sony’s newest console thanks to backward compatibility with the PS4’s catalog, a fully-fledged update would make full use of the PS5’s cutting-edge graphical horsepower and game-enhancing features like the DualSense controller’s immersive Haptic Feedback.

In fact, plenty of noteworthy last-gen titles have already received full ports on the PS5, and some of them are even available for free to those who previously purchased the PS4 versions. A current-gen remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man is being offered up as a bonus with the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for PS5 and Capcom recently released Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, which allows players to step into the role of longtime franchise anti-hero Vergil as well as return to the franchise’s fabled Bloody Palace.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, it looks like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare might be joining that list, as suggested by an image leaked by reputable gaming newshound Okami on Twitter yesterday. This screenshot, which was first provided by Reddit user asjonesy99, features Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s PlayStation 5 dashboard screen, which seems to include an option for a PS5 edition of the game. Not much is known yet about what this might entail, but GameRant suggests that a PS5 version of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare would feature an enhanced framerate of 120 fps and ray-tracing graphics. So far, there has been no official confirmation from Activision as to the accuracy of this leak.

Even months after its release last August, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare remains one of the biggest-selling titles of 2020. Activision is still providing fans with new content for the game, such as October’s terrifying “Haunting Of Verdansk” multiplayer event for both Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Warzone that pitted players against the combined horror of Saw’s Jigsaw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface. Additionally, Modern Warfare’s Season 6 Battle Pass DLC is being extended by an additional two weeks following a rough beginning in September.

It’s possible that the image hinting at a PS5 port of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare might be fake, but Okami has made correct predictions in the past, like the latest Call Of Duty game being titled Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Should this new tidbit prove as fruitful, fans could look forward to an enhanced version of one of the Call Of Duty series’ most recent and successful installments on their shiny new PS5s in the near future.
