Ever since the launch of the 1.20 patch on April 28th, Call of Duty: Warzone players have been able to pick up red key cards that drop from loot crates. However, players couldn’t find a way to put them to use them, despite extensive speculation and experimentation. All of that changed when the 1.21 patch was uploaded on May 19th – players can now utilize key cards to access high-value weapon caches.

Scattered around the edge of the Verdansk battle royale map are small, easy to miss bunker entrances that have remained stubbornly inaccessible. However, it has now become clear that those bunkers are introducing an exciting new element to the game. Teams that move quickly can use the key cards to get inside of these bunkers find some the strongest weapons that appear in the game, killstreaks, and large amounts of cash. This guide will tell you how to find key cards and how to gain a huge early game advantage.

Where To Find Key Cards in Call Of Duty: Warzone

Unfortunately, there isn’t a surefire way to guarantee that you and your team can grab one of the red key cards. The key cards are only found in the crates that are randomly distributed around the map, and there are conflicting reports about whether they appear in lower value crates. However, they do seem to spawn in the orange legendary crates, so if really want to hunt down a key card, your first step is to open as many crates as possible.

The only other way to get your hands on a key card is by looting it off of a downed player. However, there are no in-game indicators as to whether or not someone is carrying one, so this is ultimately a fairly random occurrence as well. The only thing that might increase your chances of finding another carrying a key card is to set up someplace that players with key cards might congregate – such as at one of the bunkers the key cards unlock.

How to Use Key Cards in Call Of Duty: Warzone

As of right now, the only confirmed use of key Cards is to open one of the twelve bunkers that are scattered around the edge of the map – use this guide to find the exact location of each one. As players approach the bunker a green light will indicate if it can be opened and interacting with the keypad to the right of the door will activate the door. The yellow bars on the door will slide out of the way, and players can rush in to grab their well-earned loot.

While bunker access is the only current use of key cards in Call of Duty: Warzone at the moment, players can expect more secrets to reveal. There is a second set of doors in each bunker that is inaccessible, and the Call of Duty: Warzone community has revealed the existence of green key cards hidden in the PC version’s files. In addition, the hard to access Bunker 11, which opens after players solve a puzzle based on answering phone calls across the map, seems to have a set of nuclear weapons in it!
