Warning! SPOILERS for Canada’s Drag Race season 2 episode 5 below!

Two girl groups competed for the win on Canada’s Drag Race season 2 episode 5, but both of their performances didn’t live up to the expectations that fans have set from watching RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. There’s a long history of drag queens serving up iconic girl group performances on Drag Race that goes as far as the first season of the American series. But in recent years, there has been a renaissance of girl group performances with BeBe Zahara Benet’s verse on All Stars 3 and the success of the Frock Destroyers and the United Kingdolls on Drag Race UK.

This week, Synthia Kiss and Gia Metric won the mini challenge Canada’s Drag Race and got to pick their girl groups for this maxi challenge. Synthia picked Eve 6000, Kendall Gender, and Kimora Amour, forming the Dosey Hoes. Gia picked Adriana, Icesis Couture, and Pythia, and they formed the Giddy Girls. After landing in the bottom three last week, Eve and Adriana were the last queens to get picked for this challenge. Alas, they promised to prove the other queens wrong.

The queens got to record their vocals with this week’s special guest judge on the show, Canadian pop-rock icon Bif Naked. It was clear from the start that Eve 6000 and Adriana had too many bars for their verses, so they tried to re-adjust in the recording session. Alternatively, Pythia and Icesis Couture were able to really sell their verses, and Synthia Kiss once again delivered spectacular vocals. These queens then got ready for the maxi challenge and performed their versions of “Bye Flop” on the main stage of Canada’s Drag Race. First up were the Giddy Girls – Gia Metric and Icesis Couture really sold their performances, Adriana was surprisingly great in it, and Pythia did just enough to at least stay safe. Then came the Dosey Hoes, and it was clear that the judges just weren’t feeling that group too much.

Synthia Kiss’ vocals in the performance were fantastic, but there’s just something about her that the judges seem to really dislike. Kimora Amour’s performance wasn’t great, but she absolutely shut down the runway with that look. Kendall Gender once again got praise for “selling it” in the challenge, even if her performance this week was also not the best. Eve 6000 got the exact same critique she’s been getting for weeks, so the storyline to put her in the bottom was a low-hanging fruit.

In the end, Eve 6000 and Synthia Kiss were put in the bottom two and were asked to lip sync for their lives. This was a better lip sync than last week’s, but it wasn’t exactly great. In any case, Synthia had a better performance than Eve, and the edit had already been showing that this was Eve’s week to go anyway. As expected, Eve was told to sashay away from Canada’s Drag Race.
