Warning! Spoilers for The Immortal Hulk #47 by Marvel Comics

When Captain America and the Avengers are called into action against the Hulk, Steve Rogers admits the harsh truth about his former ally: The Hulk ruins lives and does unspeakable damage when not in full control of his rage. In The Immortal Hulk #47, Hulk is confronted by the Avengers and isn’t particularly keen on their reaction to him.

The Avengers have touched down in Manhattan after being alerted the Hulk was causing major damage during a fight with the U-Foes. The person responsible for calling in the superteam, Alpha Flight’s Henry Gyrich, abused his power in order to take down the Jade Giant – meaning the Hulk is getting hunted by his former teammates despite actually just defending himself against an onslaught of monsters trying to kill him again. Now engaged against an epic battle against the Avengers with Harpy by his side, the Hulk is forced to listen to Captain America tell one of his current allies why he’s actually extremely destructive when left unchecked.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Immortal Hulk #47 by Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy Jose, Paul Mounts, Belardino Brabo, and Cory Petit, The Hulk fights back against the Avengers, as Harpy also joins in the chaotic battle. The Hulk throws Blade halfway across the city. As Thor and the Hulk exchange massive blows, Doc Samson and the Gamma Flight crew arrive and try to stop the fight, saying they can take care of the Hulk and Harpy. When Jacqueline McGee tries to reason with the Avengers to prevent further damage, Captain America responds by telling her “damage is what the Hulk does.”

Captain America doesn’t mince words when trying to defend his reasoning for stopping the Hulk. He tells McGee and the former Gamma Flight crew that the Hulk “wrecks lives,” while referencing that even she has been impacted by his actions. Captain America says it’s a “tough call” but he has to help contain him. The Hulk responds by asking him if patting himself on the back is the “toughest part” of stopping him.

While the battle ends with Hulk and his fellow gamma mutates escaping before the former Avenger can be brought in, it’s still a pretty heartbreaking confrontation with Captain America. Steve isn’t exactly wrong by saying the Hulk causes destruction wherever he goes, or that he’s ruined lives along the way of learning his powers. But, still, seeing Captain America break down the reasons why they’re trying to stop the Hulk, when he doesn’t want to be fighting his former friends, is quite a tough scene, even if the green monster plays it off with a joke. Plus, the Hulk can’t suddenly stop being the Hulk – destroying is what he does. Immortal Hulk #47 is in comic book stores now.
