Carrion: Where to Find Every Containment Unit Location (& What They’re For)

On the surface level, Carrion looks like a game that is only about wanton destruction and violence. Players take on the role of a monstrous creature breaking out of a lab to kill everything in their path on their way to escape. Carrion does manage to introduce some environmental puzzles that manage to alter the way that the game is played, and breaks up the gameplay considerably.

Some of the most interesting puzzles in the game are the optional ones. In order to get certain powerups in the game, players will need to find special containment units. These units are tucked away in hidden areas of the map that players will need to search for. Once there they will usually have to solve a puzzle to snag the new upgrade. This guide shows players the locations of all containment units in the game and how to solve the puzzles.

Carrion- What are Containment Units For?

Obtaining the upgrades from containment units isn’t necessary to finish the game, but they will help players out considerably. These upgrades will give players things like extra tendrils that make grabbing and eating things a lot easier. Having access to these upgrades will make getting through the more difficult encounters in Carrion simpler, so players who are having trouble should backtrack and see if they can collect as many of these units as they can.

Carrion- Containment Unit Locations

In total there are nine separate containment units that players will have the opportunity to find while exploring the world of Carrion. Some of them are harder to locate than others, but one thing that helps considerably is that players will find a small glowing diamond symbol near each one. If players see a symbol then they will know that there is a door they can enter to find a containment unit. Here are the specific locations of each unit and how to solve their puzzles:

Containment Unit #1- Players will find this unit in the Military Junkyard area. Luckily this one is a very open area that players have no choice to travel through. Players just need to travel through this area until the see the glowing symbol and enter the door. There is also no puzzle for this one either, so players will just have to grab the unit after entering the door.

Containment Unit #2- This unit can be found in the Frontier area of the game. Players should move through the level until the find the entrance to BSL-4 Research Ward and then move right from there. There will then be a water pipe that players can use to travel to another area. From here if players look down they will see the glowing symbol below them being blocked by a wooden barricade. They will need to use the smash skill to break this barricade and enter the door. There isn’t a puzzle for this one either so just grab the unit inside.

Containment Unit #3-  Players will find this inside the Uranium Mines area. As they make their way through the level they will be able to see the symbol off to their right. Once again they will need to smash the wood in their way to get through. Players will also need the swimming skill in order to get past a barrier and enter a pipe below. This will put them inside a new area and put them up against their first puzzle.

The unit will be located at the bottom of the screen behind a locked door. Players will find a switch in front of them that unlocks the door, but doing so also triggers a series of lasers that will close the door when tripped. Players will need to drop off some biomass until they are at level 1 and use their invisibility skill. Once they are charged up they can activate invisibility and begin making their way past the lasers. Players will need to shoot their webs through small cracks in the wall as they move in order to recharge their ability so that they don’t run out of invisibility halfway through. Eventually, they will make their way past the lasers and they can move into the room with the containment unit.

Containment Unit #4- Players will find this inside the Botanical Gardens area. In the big open area here, players can travel up to get to save point. There is another room above this save point that players can travel into. Players will then be able to travel down a few floors until they reach an area with a glowing symbol to their left side. Players will be able to swim underneath and mind control a solider to flip a switch and open the door. Players should then pick up that soldier and carry him with them.

Players can then carry the soldier to the next locked door at the bottom of the room. They can then mind control him again and make him climb up the ladder to get to another switch. This will open the door to allow the player to get through and grab the containment unit.

Containment Unit #5- Players will find this one inside the Leviathan Reef Base. Instead of going up after acquiring the swimming powerup, players should travel to the right instead. There will be a barricade here that players can use the level 3 smash on to break through. Players will find the symbol here and should charge up their abilities while they can.

Players will need to keep moving to the right and they will eventually come across a javelin explosive. They can turn on their shield to negate this damage and keep moving. They will then need to travel through a pipe and pull the switch in front of them. A door will open up and players should go through that and refill their energy. There will be another switch that they can flip here. If they move to the left they will need to pull up their shield to block the explosive again, but then they can grab the containment unit and leave.

Containment Unit #6- Players will find this unit inside the Relith Science HQ. Once players reach the level’s exit they will need to get in the water at the bottom of the room and move all the way to the right. Players will make their way into a small pool with a barrier that they need to rip open as Level 3. After that they should drop biomass in the pool until they are Level 1. They will find the symbol here.

After entering the puzzle area, players will need to drop down and open a door to flip the switch and turn the laser on. They can then sneak past this laser and using invisibility to flip another switch. Players will then need to loop around to grab the biomass they had dropped before and then dump it again in the pool right below. Players will then need to sneak past the laser again to flip the switch, which will allow them to access their biomass and break through to the containment unit.

Containment Unit #7- Players will find this one in the Nuclear Power Plant. When players enter the room with the gun turret, they should go through the exit in the top right. Players will then find a small pool of water and a save point at the bottom of the room. Below that will be a pipe that players can unblock using the Level 3 smash skill.

Once going through the pipe, players will be confronted with a javelin explosive that they will need to turn on their shield to protect themselves from it. After that players need to move to the corner and drop biomass until they are at Level 1 and move on to the next room. Players will then need to flip the switch and go past the laser using invisibility. Players can then take control of the guard here and have them get hit with a javelin explosive and blow up the wall in front of them. The containment unit will be past the wall.

Containment Unit #8- This one is in the Armoured Warfare Facility and is relatively easy to get to. Players will need to go right from the exit and they’ll find the containment unit door. There is no puzzle here, players will just have to pick up the unit.

Containment Unit #9- Players will find this at the Bunker area. Right after the very first save point, players will enter an area with the glowing symbol right above a door in the middle of the room. Players just have to enter this door to pick up the containment unit with no puzzles to stop them.
