Netflix’s Castlevania was an excellent animated series that wrapped last year. The series was a fantasy epic full of epic battles and philosophical musings, and it has a sequel spin-off on the way. Fans of the show need only look at the games for info about where the sequel could go. The heroic clan Belmont have tons of members from the games beyond the show’s lead Trevor.

The Belmont clan is dedicated to fighting Dracula in all of his forms. As the games are generational, there are plenty of different family members throughout the years. Only counting the classic series and only characters with the surname Belmont, these vampire killers are some of Konami’s most powerful characters.

12 Victor, Sid, and Michael R. Belmont

These are three of the most obscure Belmonts in the series with barely any stories to their name. Michael R. Belmont is likely to have lived sometime after Simon. But his only mention comes from a mention in Castlevania Bloodlines that he lost the family’s heirloom whip.

Victor and Sid have a little more going on. Victor, pictured right, is a time-traveling Belmont who would have assisted his family in a canceled game. As he never appeared in any mainline game, he’s not very notable. Inversely, Sid came from a tabletop Castlevania adventure, and his adventures could’ve theoretically been anything.

11 Simon Belmont (1950)

Slightly less obscure and more canonical is Simon Belmont. Despite sharing the name of his famous ancestor who appeared in Super Smash Bros., this is not the famous hunter. This is actually an actor who lived in the 1950s. He made his only appearance in a book.

Weirdly, this gamebook is considered to be official Castlevania media. The Devil’s Castle Dracula: The Battle Of The Old Castle sees Simon filming a movie of his ancestor’s deeds when Dracula attacks for real. This forces him to live up to the family name for real. While an interesting premise, it’s at odds with the franchise’s gothic theme.

10 Desmond, Zoe, and Dolores Belmont

Desmond and his two younger sisters are the first Belmonts on this list from an actual game. Castlevania: Order of Shadows was a video game released on mobile phones in the late 2000’s. It only released in America and United Kingdom, keeping these three fairly obscure. The game featured a mix of platforming and RPG elements.

The game begins with the three siblings teaming up to take on a cult to that plans to resurrect Dracula. They immediately split up to do so. You can only encounter certain sisters on particular levels but the three siblings reunite in the ending.

9 Soleil Belmont

Soleil is the first hard canon Belmont on this list. However, he’s not actually a playable hero. Soleil is the son of Christopher, the protagonist of the Castlevania Adventure games for the Game Boy. As revenge for being defeated by Christopher, Dracula possesses Soleil.

Soleil actually serves as the villain of his debut game. It’s a pretty harrowing experience for Christopher. Unfortunately, the Game Boy is hardly equipped to convey such a plot. Perhaps if the story ever gets adapted by Netflix there will be more pathos to be had.

8 Juste Belmont

Silver hair and a slick jacket is a pretty good description of Castlevania‘s fan-favorite tortured hero Alucard. However, Dracula’s family line never ended up mixing with the Belmont’s. So Juste’s resemblance to the famous dhampyr is coincidence. In truth, Juste resembled Alucard to go with the Symphony of the Night-like gameplay of his debut.

Juste is the grandson of Simon Belmont, and a prodigy vampire hunter. This is something that upsets his friend, Maxim. Maxim ends up making a deal with dark forces to surpass Juste’s natural talent. Juste also is one of the dandiest Belmonts, as he gets to decorate his own room in the game.

7 Christopher Belmont

Christopher Belmont has very strong “medieval dad” energy. But while this archetype is usually meant for overbearing support figures, Chris is actually the protagonist of Castlevania: The Adventure and its sequel. He’s a hunter destined to defeat Dracula. Except that after he does this, Dracula heals for 15 years and then takes over his son’s body.

Christopher is actually one of the most well traveled Belmonts in the series. He tackles more than five castles over his two adventures. However, given the hardware his games were on, there’s not a lot to say about him. It’s easy to mistake him for Simon at first.

6 Sonia Belmont

Sonia is an unfortunately non-canonical Belmont. But it’s a shame, since she’s the only playable female Belmont in the series. At least, not counting Castlevania‘s heroine Sypha, a cosplay favorite, who marries into the family. She appeared in the Game Boy title Castlevania Legends.

She was meant to have a second appearance in Castlevania Resurrection, but that game was canceled. After its cancelation, she was stricken from canon. That’s unfortunate, as in her game she had a childhood friendship with Alucard that helped him trust humanity. Perhaps that’s why she became non-canonical, as it didn’t fit in with the more popular Alucard’s timeline.

5 Leon Belmont

Leon is called the first Belmont. He has an intimate relationship with Dracula’s former human self, Matthias. Matthias originally planned to conscript Leon into his services. But part of his plan involved hurting those Leon cared for, which caused Leon to swear revenge.

Leon was a knight of France who fought with a sword instead of a whip. He only receives the Whip of Alchemy during the events of the game. In the climax, his wife sacrifices herself to empower the whip and turn it into the famous Vampire Killer. It’s a little melodramatic, but it’s a fitting beginning for the series.

4 Simon Belmont

Simon is commonly referred to as the original Belmont. He’s the protagonist of the first game in the series. He’s got a classic barbarian look despite hailing from the 17th century. That is, unless the game featured his more anime redesign.

Simon is one of the most powerful Belmonts. He’s a vampire hunter that defeated Dracula twice after all. After his first battle he was cursed by Dracula. So he resurrected Dracula to make him take the curse back like a true king.

3 Trevor C. Belmont

Trevor was originally considered the first Belmont before Leon was created. That was a legacy for a while. But then the Netflix series brought Trevor back and gave him plenty of Castlevania‘s funniest quotes. They expanded on his backstory as a church excommunicate by making him a sarcastic drunk who’s lost his way.

But despite being down on his luck, he still can fight. Trevor finds himself in big scraps in both the games and the show. And his friendship with Alucard is canon, unlike Sonia’s. The character’s role from outcast to legend is one of the series’ most compelling arcs and makes him one of Castlevania‘s most complex characters.

2 Julius Belmont

Julius Belmont is the Belmont who won. In the war of 1999, he finally killed Dracula for good and ended his resurrection. That makes him the strongest Belmont in the franchise; so powerful that Konami only ever let players control him in bonus modes. He spends most of his screentime amnesiac so as to not break the plot.

He’s encountered by Soma Cruz in the games where he’s the protagonist. Finding out his identity and returning his memories are a big part of the adventure. But when Julius is back to 100% again, no evil creature is safe. He’s an absolute machine when it comes to defeated demonic forces.

1 Richter Belmont

Richter debuted in Rondo of Blood. He’s been looking for his chance to live up to his family name, and gets it when Dracula attacks. And to combat his cocky attitude he gets one of the hardest games in the series. But he eventually defeats Dracula and fulfills his destiny.

That is, until a few years later when the dark priest Shaft possesses his body and prays on his desire for fame. This causes Richter to resurrect Castlevania and attempt to bring Dracula back, which catches Alucard’s notice. This is Symphony of the Night, the most famous Castlevania title. This role earned Richter fame, and he’s set to appear in the sequel to the Netflix adaptation.
