Season 4 of Castlevania will be the show’s last, but Netflix has released a teaser and poster to get viewers excited for its upcoming ending. The animated series is based on the video games of the same name and premiered in the summer of 2017. It follows the characters Trevor Belmont, Alucard, and Sypha Belnades as they battle a vengeful Dracula and try to keep the people of Wallachia safe. Castlevania seasons 1 and 2 focused on the 1989 game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, while 2005’s  Castlevania: Curse of Darkness came into play in seasons 2 and 3.

The most recent season released on March 5, 2020 with 10 episodes, making it Castlevania‘s longest run of episodes at the time. Netflix confirmed season 4 only a few weeks later. First look images that debuted in November showed Sypha and Trevor, though it was hard to glean any story details from them. Luckily, this week brought a whole host of new information about Castlevania season 4, though not all of it is good news for viewers.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Netflix first released a poster for the new season highlighting the Alucard Shield. Next came a short teaser for Castlevania season 4, with Netflix using the video to reveal the new season releases on May 13. It will also be the series’ last. However, it may not be the end entirely, as Deadline reports Netflix is looking at a new show with different characters that would be set in the same universe. Check out both the poster and season 4 teaser below:

The news that Castlevania is ending with season 4 doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, though that’s likely little consolation for viewers. Creator Warren Ellis was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in June 2020 and wouldn’t have had any more involvement with Castlevania beyond his already completed work on season 4. It’s possible Netflix found it neater to end the series all together, while also not saying goodbye to its world thanks to the potential new show.

Luckily, there are still ten episodes of Castlevania to go. The season 4 teaser makes it look like the new episodes will provide a fitting conclusion for the show. It’s also exciting to find out season 4 will release relatively soon, though it does mean viewers have less time to come to terms with Castlevania ending. Hopefully, more information about the potential other show set in the universe comes out soon. That could help lessen the sting of Castlevania‘s cancellation.
