Actor Charlie Cox comments on his future as Daredevil in the MCU. Cox played Matt Murdock/Daredevil for the solo Marvel series on Netflix for three seasons before it was canceled. However, Cox’s reappearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home has folded him into the MCU proper, opening the doors for a return in some capacity or another as the famed “Man Without Fear.” Cox also appeared as Daredevil in The Defenders miniseries, which grouped all the Marvel characters on Netflix together as a team, which included Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist.

Daredevil was created in 1964 by Stan Lee and Bill Everett and has been a staple character for Marvel ever since. The solo comic series has seen a number of top creators work on it, including Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Kevin Smith, and Ed Brubaker, all contributing to the mythos of the character and keeping the title going strong for decades. Daredevil’s first live-action appearance was in 1989’s The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, before getting his first solo feature film, 2003’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck. Cox then took up the mantle for the Netflix show, which has now led to his inclusion in the MCU.

In an interview with Australian site Supanova, Cox is asked about his future as Daredevil, particularly after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which officially pulled him into the MCU. Cox had been dodging rumors about appearing in No Way Home for months, but now that the devil is out of the bag he is free to openly discuss (and speculate) on where he’d like to see the character go in the future, saying, “I don’t want to sound greedy, but I hope I get to do loads more. I hope I get to be involved way, way more for many years. I hope it never ends. I hope it gets to the point where people are like, ‘You are too old to be playing this part.’” Cox goes on to say that he’d love to do more crossovers with other MCU characters, as well as some “interesting stories” that he’d love to explore. Check out his full comment below:

I don’t know what their plans are, but yes, my hope is that I get to do as much as I’m allowed to do, and to be involved. And it’d be really fun, the one thing that being in the MCU allows that we couldn’t really do with the Netflix stuff, is that I can now interact with other MCU characters. So, that would be really cool. Crossovers is the thing I would like to do next. I don’t know what that looks like, and I don’t know what they’re planning and all that kind of stuff. But there are some really interesting stories there that I’d love for the character to explore.

Cox has played a number of different roles throughout his career and is known for a few characters besides Daredevil. He starred as Tristan Thorn in Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust and later played Owen Sleater in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Cox is currently starring in the AMC drama series Kin with Aidan Gillen and Ciaran Hinds. He’ll next star in the UK series Treason with Olga Kurylenko and Oona Chaplin.

There’s so much potential for Daredevil in the MCU, be it on the feature side or the Disney+ series side. The Netflix show was a more hardcore, violent, and bloody show, which fits the mold of his comic-book origins, so it will be curious to see how watered down the character gets in the PG-13 friendly MCU. While the characters of the MCU are varied, the stories that have made them popular on the page were not particularly sanitized, especially during Frank Miller’s run on the character, which took him to a whole other level. Hopefully, Marvel finds the right home and right balance for Daredevil in the MCU, as he absolutely belongs there and with a proper spotlight, being one of the more interesting, cool, and complex characters in their stable.
