Daredevil star Charlie Cox praises the fan campaign to save the series. When Daredevil premiered on Netflix in 2015 it became an immediate favorite among audiences and critics. Daredevil crossed over with other Netflix heroes in The Defenders and returned for two additional seasons of his own show, which aired in 2016 and 2018 before being canceled by Netflix.

The cancelation of Daredevil left many disappointed and almost immediately fans of the series started campaigning online for the series to return, either on Disney+ or Hulu. Three years after the series’ cancelation, Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home to the surprise of many. Later it was confirmed that Daredevil would return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law where he will team up with She-Hulk. It was then officially confirmed that a new series would premiere on Disney+, Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to premiere in 2024.

After the D23 panel, Cox spoke with THR and revealed how grateful he is for the fan campaign to save Daredevil. Cox said that he would see fans or be shown by friends the campaigns online, but that he had given up hope that the series would return. Cox said the fans never gave up and for that, he owes them a big thank you. Read Cox’s full quote below:

“I feel like I owe them a huge thank you. The Save Daredevil campaign, they campaigned so hard for this and there were times where I would meet some of them when they came to see the play I was doing in New York or my friends, who followed them online, would tell me stuff that they’re trying to and raise awareness. I would be there thinking, “Oh, guys, I think it’s over. It’s so nice, but I think we need to give up.” [Laughs] And they didn’t, and here we are. “

There have been many successful fan campaigns recently, with the most notable being the one surrounding the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, while the Snyder Cut fan campaign certainly had some noble intentions and did help raise awareness for worthy causes, it also was used by many to review bomb other Warner Bros. movies and make online threats against individuals who did not like Snyder’s films and other DCEU creators. The Daredevil campaign, meanwhile, was focused on the love of the character, and it appears Marvel Studios has recognized the audience’s appetite for more Daredevil material.

Daredevil has now become a major player in the MCU future. In addition to his appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the character will also be seen in Echo alongside fellow Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio and will appear in the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year with Cox voicing the character. How Daredevil will factor into the overall Multiverse Saga is unclear, as is whether he will join the battle against Kang the Conqueror. Regardless, there’s a chance none of this would have happened if not for the dedication of Daredevil fans.
