Actress Charlyne Yi has posted a checklist on her Instagram account, with a list of demands she wants Seth Rogen to follow to make up for his previous support of James Franco. Franco, Rogen, and Yi all starred together in the 2017 film, The Disaster Artist. Franco was the executive producer of the movie, which gained critical acclaim and landed Franco a Golden Globe for Best Actor. However, during the filming of the movie, several women came forward to accuse Franco of sexual misconduct towards them while they were students at the film school he founded. While lawsuits have been settled and charges have been dropped, many are unsatisfied with the outcome.

Yi, in particular, has been very open about her criticism for Franco, as well as for Rogen, whom she has called out for being an enabler. After the allegations came out, Rogen continued to work with Franco and even made a distasteful joke about the allegations while hosting SNL. Yi revealed she tried to quit The Disaster Artist when the allegations surfaced, but her concerns were dismissed and she was even bribed to stay. Since Rogen was one of the producers, she has called him out for his knowledge of the bribe and for being an enabler of Franco for years. While Rogen recently announced that he has no plans to work with Franco again and despises abuse and harassment, Yi is dissatisfied with his statement.

Yi took to Instagram to post a checklist of demands for Rogen to follow to make up for his support of Franco. The list is meant to show Rogen how he should properly apologize. The first image on her Instagram post directs Rogen to publicly apologize to the survivors he harmed by publicly siding with their abuser, to educate himself on sexual assault, and to protect and hire survivors. Her second slide explains why Rogen’s behavior was damaging and warrants an apology, and her last slide contains a list of all the women to whom Rogen needs to apologize. Yi’s post is bold and assertive, as were her original allegations against Rogen and others who enabled Franco. Thus far, Rogen has not issued an explicit apology or admitted to any wrongdoing. Thus, Yi has taken it upon herself to show Rogen the severity of his actions and how he should make up for them. In her post, she criticizes Rogen and Franco for being “two rich white male celebrities” who teamed up and sent thousands of fans to attack and threaten the survivors. She says the women were discredited, blacklisted, and had their careers damaged because of Rogen and Franco’s actions. She demands Rogen apologize to every woman who came forward with allegations, as well as to those who haven’t come forward yet.

Rogen has not yet publicly responded to Yi’s checklist. Whether he acknowledges it or not, Yi’s words are bold and brave, as she draws attention to the injustice surrounding this case. She is educating individuals on sexual assault, what it means to be an enabler, and the impact of gaslighting survivors. Sadly, Franco’s case is just one of many in which victims of sexual assault have been silenced or discredited, because their abusers had the money, fame, and publicity to do so. It is high time that someone demands accountability for abusers and all those who support them. While it remains to be seen if Rogen will comply with the list, it is encouraging that the victims of Franco’s abuse have found a powerful voice in Yi.
