Charmed season 1 featured a romantic relationship between Prue Halliwell and a cop named Andy Trudeau, but he didn’t make it to season 2. Debuting in 1998, Charmed tells the story of three sisters, Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), who discover that they’re actually a trio of extremely powerful witches called The Charmed Ones. Possessing The Power of Three, the sisters use their powers to fight against the forces of evil, all while trying to have personal and professional lives too.

Charmed became a huge hit, running for eight seasons on The WB, and later spawning a 2018 reboot series about a new set of powerful sisters. The focus of Charmed eventually came to rest on the trio of Piper, Phoebe, and their half-sister Paige, after Prue was killed off at the end of season 3. While it’s now been 14 years since Charmed‘s series finale, all eight seasons of the show remain readily available on Netflix, and remastered in HD to boot. This allows even more fans to easily discover Charmed as the years go on.

While Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige had many memorable love interests over the course of Charmed‘s run, one of the most liked relationships by fans remains Prue and Andy, which made it incredibly shocking when Andy ended up dead so early on. There have been several floated reasons about why that happened, and here’s the full rundown.

Charmed: Why Andy Was Killed Off In Season 1

While neither Shannen Doherty or Andy Trudeau actor T.W. King ever appear to have addressed why Andy was killed off publicly, there are four prevailing pieces of info going around about why it happened. They could all be true, at least to an extent. The most popular belief is that Doherty and King simply hated each other, and hated working together. Since Doherty was a lead, that obviously would put King on the chopping block. The second bit of info floating around asserts that King wanted a bigger role on Charmed, and producers didn’t have any story ideas to accommodate that desire, leading King to exit.

The third and most mundane piece of info suggests that King simply wanted to pursue other acting opportunities, and left Charmed of his own accord in order to do so. King has acted pretty steadily since his Charmed swan song, so there could certainly be some truth to that idea. Finally, Charmed creator Constance M. Burge once asserted that the decision was made to kill off Andy after he proved to be a hard character to write for, and producers came to believe it would be easier to remove him from the equation. Whichever scenario or scenarios above are based in fact, King didn’t seem to hold a grudge after his departure, allowing Andy to appear in archive footage during later seasons, unlike Doherty, as Prue never appeared onscreen again after her death.
