It was a particularly dramatic year for the team, so let’s recap the finale of Chicago Med season 3. Chicago Med is one part of Dick Wolf’s sprawling Chicago franchise, which also includes hit shows like Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. The only installment of the franchise to date to not prove a success was Chicago Justice, starring Philip Winchester (Strike Back) and Carl Weathers, which was canceled after one season. Chicago Med, on the other hand, has really connected with viewers and was recently renewed for a fifth season.

Chicago Med was developed by screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (Wanted) and follows the emergency department at a Chicago hospital. Like Grey’s Anatomy or E.R., the show is just as much about the interpersonal relationships between the staff as it is about saving lives. While the show has received a somewhat mixed reception from critics its been a solid performer in terms of ratings.

Chicago Med season 3 finale “The Tipping Point” was a particularly dramatic episode for all involved. Dr. Charles, played by Oliver Platt (X-Men: First Class), visited Robert Haywood, the father of Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo). Charles suspects Haywood of being a serial killer and when he collapses after being confronted with this accusation, Charles stops himself from performing resuscitation when Sarah walks in and finds them. This later causes Reese to leave the show in the season 4 premiere, as she feels she can’t trust her mentor anymore.

Dr. Rhodes, played by Colin Donnell (The Affair) rejoins an operation on conjoined twins, which proves to be such as success he’s offered a new position at Mayo Clinic. This causes tension between him and love interest Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling), who feels he used the operation to display his skills. The finale ends without revealing if he accepted the offer or not. Elsewhere, Will finally proposes to Natalie after waiting for the perfect moment – in this case, he proposes right after they have a fight over a doctor he kissed. Her answer isn’t revealed either, though the season 4 premiere reveals they’re engaged.

Finally, Ethan (Brian Tee, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), finds his sister Emily (Arden Cho) at a homeless shelter. After ignoring her problems, he decides he wants her to come live with him, which causes April (Yaya DaCosta) to break up with him. Like the name implies, “The Tipping Point” was an emotional ride for the main characters of Chicago Med season 3, which had a major impact for many of them in the next season.
