Chris Evans’ Captain America has received a new throwback Funko Pop! figure equipped with his prototype shield. Fans were first introduced to Evans as Steve Rogers, a skinny kid from Brooklyn, in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, which chronicled the character’s transformation into the titular super-soldier. Evans’ most recent appearance came in Avengers: Endgame, which during its final moments, saw Old Steve Rogers pass his vibranium shield on to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), effectively enshrining him as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new Captain America.

Though this emotional passing of the torch seemingly marked the end of Evans’ time in the MCU, there has been rampant speculation about his return ever since. Even so, the franchise has all but solidified Sam Wilson as the Captain America of the future. The Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam struggling with the decision to take on the mantle before fully embracing it during the final episode, setting him up as the star of Captain America 4. But Steve Rogers will always be Captain America in the hearts of many fans thanks to Evans’ near decade-long run as the character.

Now, available exclusively through Entertainment Earth, Evans’ Captain America has received a brand new throwback Funko Pop! figure commemorating his first appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger. Pictured below, the figurine can be seen wearing Steve’s soldier uniform and wielding his prototype shield of unpainted vibranium. The new figure is available for preorder for $14.99 and will arrive sometime in June 2022, though it will only be available for a limited time (order here).

Funko Pop! figures are now for their faithful recreations of famous franchise characters, and this throwback Captain America figure is just the latest example of that. In the 2011 film, Howard Stark gives the prototype shield to Rogers before it is painted with its Star-Spangled design and known as Captain America’s iconic weapon. Eagled-eyed fans will also notice the three bullet marks in the shield, a reference to when Peggy Carter unexpectedly picks up a pistol and shoots it out of jealousy for Steve consorting with another woman, one of the earliest indications of their feelings for each other.

The new Funko is also a testament to Steve Rogers’ enduring legacy and how much fans enjoy seeing Evans as the character. While it remains unclear if Evans intends to return to the role, Sam Wilson will carry on the mantle in Captain America 4 and beyond. Fans can now relive the formative days of Steve Rogers’ tenure as Captain America in Funko form.
