Chris Noth has addressed why actress Kim Cattrall will not appear in the upcoming Sex and the City reboot show. Noth rose to fame in the early ‘90s, playing Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order. In 1998 he was cast in the role of Mr. Big (real name John James Preston) on HBO’s acclaimed comedy-drama Sex and the City. The show, which was adapted from the 1997 book of the same name by Candace Bushnell, became a massive hit and ran six seasons and 94 episodes, with the finale airing in 2004.

Exploring the lives and loves of four 30-40 something women in New York City, Sex and the City became a cultural phenomenon, and spawned two feature films, Sex and the City (2008), and Sex and the City 2 (2010), as well as a prequel tv series The Carrie Diaries (2013-14). In January 2021 it was announced that a reboot entitled And Just Like That… would be happening. However, it was also announced that Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones on the original show, would not be returning, amid rumors of a rift with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In an interview with The Guardian, Noth weighed in on the issue, giving his thoughts on the matter. And it seems as though the 66-year-old has come down firmly on the side of on-screen love interest Parker, defending her, and questioning the comments made by 65-year-old Cattrall. Read the Cast Away actor’s comments below:

“I have to tell you, I have absolutely no idea what her thinking is, or her emotions. I do know that I’m very close with SJ and [Cattrall’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close. I liked her, I thought she was marvellous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I don’t know what hers were. I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable.”

And Just Like That… has been given a December 9th release date, and will air on streaming platform HBO Max. Writer-director Michael Patrick King, who was heavily involved in the original series, and wrote and directed both feature films, will serve as writer, director, and executive producer for the revival show. With the exception of Cattrall, all of the original main cast will return in their roles, while supporting stars such as Noth, Evan Handler, Julie Halston, and the late Willie Garson will also reprise their roles. Empire star Nicole Ari Parker has been cast as Lisa Todd Wexley, a new friend in the group.

Of course, the claims Cattrall has made are one side of the incident, and it is impossible to know for sure how much of what has been said is accurate, and Noth himself clearly is unaware of the exact details. However, people working together for a number of years do often fall out, and, in the world of film and televisions, creative differences and personality clashes can lead to friction and fallings out. Noth seems to acknowledge that Cattrall has her own reasons, but maintains that his relationship with Parker has always been a positive one. The success of this Sex and the City revival show remains to be seen, but producer King suggests there could be additional seasons.
