The first official trailer for Chucky has been released. After Tom Holland’s original Child’s Play in 1988, Chucky quickly became one of the most recognizable characters in the horror genre. The first Child’s Play launched a long-running franchise, with six sequels to date and a reboot in 2019 with Mark Hamill as the voice of the killer doll.

Child’s Play creator Don Mancini and Brad Dourif, who has been the voice of Chucky since the original, were in no way involved in Orion Pictures 2019 reboot, but they have been hard at work crafting a sequel TV show for Syfy. While previous teasers and images reveal a new setting with Chucky in a small town’s yard sale, the story of 2017’s Cult of Chucky is expected to be continued as Fiona Dourif is returning as Nica. Franchise veterans Alex Vincent and Christine Elise McCarthy are also reprising their roles as Andy Barclay and Kyle.

Chucky‘s Comic-Con@Home panel has now unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming Child’s Play TV show. The new trailer shows Chucky being purchased at a yard sale by a teenager named Jake, played by Zackary Arthur, before terrorizing a family and the citizens of a small town. Chucky‘s first official trailer starts around the 11-minute mark in the panel below:

Vincent and McCarthy were noticeable absent from the trailer, but they did appear in the panel. The trailer itself doesn’t seem to connect to Cult of Chucky’s ending, which saw a possessed Nica and Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany driving away from the asylum. Chucky seems to be going in a different direction, but Fiona Dourif did confirm in the panel that the show will pick up after the events of Cult of Chucky. The main story looks to be focusing on Arthur’s character and the other teenagers at his high school, but it’s possible the original movies’ characters could also return at the end of the series to lead into a future movie or Chucky season 2.

With Syfy not knowing how Mancini’s Child’s Play show will perform, they have yet to greenlight a second season. It’s possible that Chucky could act as a limited series before Mancini goes back to making Child’s Play movies, but recent films have been direct-to-video releases. Bringing Chucky back in the form of a TV show has a better chance to reach more viewers, as well as allow for more character development over several episodes rather than a two-hour movie. Fans will have to wait until October to watch Chucky, but at least this first trailer indicates that Mancini is bringing the series back to form with the tone of the original Child’s Play movies.
