The upcoming Chucky television series has added Devon Sawa and four more actors to its cast. The Child’s Play franchise consists of seven films and focused on a murderous doll named Chucky. The horror movies have led to several spinoffs and, in 2018, it was announced that the iconic character would be getting a television series. Don Mancini, who created the franchise, is attached to write and direct the show. He’ll also serve as a producer, along with David Kirschner and Nick Antosca of Channel Zero.

Set to premiere on Syfy, Chucky shares continuity with the movies and serves as a continuation of the story. It will begin as a vintage Chucky doll shows up at a suburban yard sale, throwing a peaceful American town into chaos. While a string of murders paves the way for exposing the town hypocrisies, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to reveal the truth behind the murders. The origins of the demon doll, who was once an ostensibly ordinary child, also face the risk of being unveiled. Brad Dourif will reprise his role as the voice of the titular character. Jennifer Tilly, who voiced Tiffany Valentine in several Child’s Play entries, has also been announced as a part of the upcoming Syfy series. Now, fans have more details about the rest of the cast.

According to Collider, Sawa and four other actors have joined Chucky. Sawa’s a veteran of the horror genre, known for his lead performances in Final Destination and Idle Hands. He will appear alongside Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Bjorgvin Arnarson, and Alyvia Alyn Lind. Although no details are given about Sawa’s part in the series, it is reportedly central.

Sawa has headlined horror comedies, such as Idle Hands, and more twisted fare, such as the recent critically-acclaimed Hunter Hunter. That experience makes him a good fit for Chucky, as the franchise is known for blending humor with its scares. As for his younger co-stars, they’ve had notable roles in the past. Arthur has appeared in Transparent, while Arnarson popped up in Hulu’s PEN15. Lind has been a mainstay on the daytime soap opera The Young and The Restless, playing Faith Newman since 2011. Briones, for his part, had a recurring stint on the Netflix drama Ratched. Still, the chance to grapple with the infamous Chucky will likely lead to a bigger spotlight for the foursome.

Following the debut of an intriguing teaser, Chucky has experienced delays due to COVID-19. Though the show was planned to begin production in 2020, in Toronto, the target was postponed by the pandemic. Hopefully, this latest casting news means that viewers won’t have to wait much longer to see how Sawa and his cohorts factor into the larger narrative of Chucky.
