Supercell’s Clash of Clans released an animated short film that has accumulated close to 30 million views in just 3 days. The free-to-play mobile strategy game has shown itself to be a staple of mobile gaming since it first exploded onto the scene in 2012. Since then, the game itself has spawned various updates, unit additions, and spin-off games, though the core gameplay has changed extremely little with the passage of time. Players continue to build up their clans, form alliances with friends, and attack their enemies for ever-precious gold and elixir.

It would be something of an understatement to say that Clash of Clans has enjoyed massive success over the past 8 or so years. This success has stemmed mostly from the game’s easily approachable gameplay, endearing art style, and wide accessibility on the mobile medium. Of course, with over half a billion downloads and counting (as well as creating one of the most recognizable and emulated app icons in mobile gaming), Clash of Clans has no doubt earned the ability to market itself in ways that some might think beyond a smart phone game. There have been numerous short videos injecting some life and lore into the many in-game units, but more impressively, 2015 saw the release of two advertisements that included the starry likes of James Corden, Christoph Waltz, and Liam Neeson.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In keeping with their seemingly unending streak of triumphs, Clash of Clans delivered an animated short film that is now approaching 30 million views since being published last Friday. The animated short follows two short and plucky skeletons as they guard their king’s massive vault of treasure.

While one skeleton seeks to take its job dutifully and seriously, the other proves to be a bit underprepared and hapless. The dynamic between the two creates no shortage of fun moments that amount to a fairly entertaining workplace adventure. It comes through as a thoroughly fun and light-hearted romp through the world of the game.

Of course, by this point Clash of Clans has developed a massive player base and has become one of the most ubiquitous mobile games in mobile gaming history. This could explain the explosion of views that the animated short has amassed in only 3 days, as the game continues to have daily player counts in the tens of millions. Mix in the various shares the video may have had, the short and dedicated narrative, and the recognizably cute style, and it’s no wonder the animated short has had a greater viewership than even the U.S. Open.
