Here’s Clint Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story character and background explained. After George Lucas wrapped up his prequel trilogy with 2005’s Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge Of The Sith it was assumed the movie franchise had come to an end, with the filmmaker expressing no interest in further sequels. That changed when Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise and set about crafting a new series of big-screen adventures. J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was the first out of the gate, providing a fun – if familiar – sequel that brought back classic characters whilst introducing new heroes.

The overall reception to the new movies has been mixed with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in particular, receiving a divided response from fans. Solo: A Star Wars Story also weathered a troubled production, with original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired a few weeks before production on their version was due to be completed. Ron Howard was brought on to essentially reshoot the entire project and while it received good reviews, the movie was a box-office dud. This response caused Lucasfilm to rethink their approach to the Star Wars brand.

The next big-screen entry will Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will mark the end of the Skywalker saga. In spite of its weak financial reception, Solo is already acquiring a fanbase and the movie introduced some fun new characters to the franchise. When Ron Howard came on board to direct, it felt like a given his brother Clint would appear somewhere. Clint Howard is a popular character actor in his own right and has over 200 credits to his name. He recently appeared in Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell and has shown up in Ron Howard movies like Apollo 13 and Frost/Nixon.

Clint Howard played Ralakili in Solo, who turns up in The Lodge on Planet Vandor. This is where Han Solo first meets Lando (Donald Glover), with Ralakili running the droid fighting pits that provided some entertainment on the planet. When Lando’s droid L3-37 tries to break up a fight and implores the fighters to think of their rights, this rankles the sleazy Ralakili, but when he tries to confront her physically she pins his face to the wall, with only Lando’s intervention preventing further unpleasantness.

Clint Howard’s screentime in Solo: A Star Wars Story is quite brief, but in keeping with the rich lore of the universe, he has some backstory. It turns out the reason Ralakili hates droids is that General Grievous once raided his planet, and while that doesn’t make him sympathetic, it at least gives him actions some context.
