Cobra Kai season 5 will see Chozen teaming up with Daniel, and that could have a positive effect on Johnny’s story. After a brief appearance in Cobra Kai season 3, Karate Kid 2‘s villain Chozen is back to the Karate Kid universe now as Daniel’s friend and fellow Miyagi-Do sensei. With Terry Silver’s Cobra Kai taking over the Valley, Daniel will be forced to flout the terms of the deal with the rival dojo and keep Miyagi-Do running.

Cobra Kai has been providing some interactions that fans of the saga could only dream of before the show. Cobra Kai season 4, for example, saw Karate Kid 3’s villain Terry Silver interacting with Johnny Lawrence for the first time – and things didn’t end well for Johnny. Now heading towards season 5, Cobra Kai will have the opportunity to bring together the antagonists of the first two films in the saga: Johnny and Chozen.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Although they have never met, Johnny and Chozen share several similarities. The two of them had in their encounter with Daniel Larusso a life-changing event, and both Johnny and Chozen have been seen as villains in the story of Karate Kid’s main character. Chozen, however, reconciled with Daniel and with himself much faster than Johnny. For someone who had come close to killing Daniel and Kumiko, Chozen showed quite a lot of greatness in acknowledging the mistakes of his past and working to achieve a better future. That is the lesson Cobra Kai‘s Johnny Lawrence could learn, not only in terms of his relationship with Larusso but in life as a whole. Johnny still carries the hurts and weights of the past, and he hasn’t allowed himself to move forward in life.

Chozen’s post-Karate Kid 2 life can be compared to Johnny’s after Karate Kid. Both were defeated, with no prospects in life, and feeling like they had failed their masters — granted, Sato seemed to be a much better mentor than Kreese. However, the way Chozen and Johnny handled their failures couldn’t be more different. Chozen learned from his mistakes, but Johnny kept blaming Daniel for all of his problems. Now that Chozen is around, Daniel’s karate cousin can inspire Johnny in more than one way. Both are also sensei and can share experiences about the art of teaching karate. There’s also the matter of rivalry with Daniel, whom Chozen has learned to respect even after everything that happened in Okinawa. There may even be a skill exchange between Johnny and Chozen, which would help answer the question of which of Karate Kid‘s antagonists, Johnny, Chozen, or Barnes is the better fight.

More than the fan-service element of having Chozen and Johnny finally meet, Cobra Kai season 5 can see Johnny learning from someone who is actually very similar to him. Once two thorns in Daniel’s side, Johnny and Chozen may now be all that stands between Daniel’s Miyagi-Do and the evilness of Terry Silver. If Mike Byrnes is also thrown into the mix to help Silver’s Cobra Kai expansion, then the alliances between the good guys will become even more important.
