After scoring progressively stronger reviews with each season, the ambitious Cobra Kai season 5 has debuted to a rare perfect Rotten Tomatoes. Cobra Kai has made its mark as a strong sequel series to The Karate Kid movies with returning stars now teaching a new generation of karate students. Cobra Kai season 4 left uncertainty for both Daniel LaRusso’s Miyagi-Do and Johnny Lawrence’s Eagle Fang, but season 5 returned with strong storylines and its usual blend of martial arts and humor.

Cobra Kai season 5 had a lot to cover with an ever-growing cast and new and old storylines colliding, and managed to end the season satisfyingly for many audiences while still lending itself to future seasons. Most notable this season, LaRusso once again performed his iconic crane kick to defeat Terry Silver, the head of Cobra Kai, and multiple beefs were squashed between the trio of dueling dojos. The prison escape of Kreese is the main cliffhanger of the season, and though Cobra Kai producers already have a master plan for season 6 and the end of the series, its ongoing success may not bring it to a close any time soon.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Cobra Kai season 5 has received a rare 100 percent approval rating from critics, with all 27 critics at the time of writing rating it fresh. Fans also seem to be very happy with the new season as it sits at a 98 percent from audiences and a generally positive consensus on Twitter and Reddit. The main praises are for Cobra Kai’s ability to weave together multiple storylines while evolving its characters and keeping the same humor and action it’s known for.

While there have been a minor group of Cobra Kai detractors in regards to its style of light humor and dramatic fights, loyal viewers who stuck through were rewarded with some of the best karate and character development in the whole series in season 5, as made evident by its rare perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Although it has not officially been renewed for another season, Cobra Kai producers and star William Zabka seem extremely optimistic about continuing the series. The series has regularly brought back old foes like Silver and Chozen, so the show has room to continue growing its young characters while bringing in familiar Karate Kid faces.

Although Cobra Kai season 5’s rare perfect Rotten Tomatoes score could change from one critic who may not enjoy it, it does still speak to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from both viewers and critics. While some may find the show a bit melodramatic with some of its jokes and drama, most agree that it works as a fresh comedy action show that still has lots of Cobra Kai stories to tell. While audiences keep their eyes peeled for a renewal announcement, or a drop in its rare rating, they can catch up with Cobra Kai season 5 streaming on Netflix now.
