Terry Silver’s victory speech in the Cobra Kai season 4 finale secretly teased more villains joining the show. When Tory was declared the winner of the girls’ division in the All Valley Karate Tournament, Ian Thomas Griffith’s character seized this opportunity to make an impassioned speech about what their victory means for their future. Based on what he said, Cobra Kai winning the tournament is only the beginning of the dojo’s success.

Silver getting what he wanted – as well as full control over the Cobra Kai dojo – established him as the show’s biggest villain. Not only that, but it set new problems in motion for the main characters. Silver telling Kreese (Martin Kove) that he’s going to bring in a friend to help him run Cobra Kai was taken as a hint at Mike Barnes’ return. Played by Sean Kanan, Barnes was the professional fighter Silver hired to beat Daniel in The Karate Kid Part III. The line in the finale strongly suggests that Mike Barnes will be the latest major Karate Kid character to join the Netflix series, presumably as a villain who will assist Silver in his schemes.

A clue in Silver’s victory speech indicates that he’ll have multiple allies at his side – not just Barnes. He claimed that his intention is to open up more Cobra Kai franchises all over the Valley. Obviously, more dojos mean more adult karate instructors. To this end, Silver will have to recruit more like-minded martial artists to serve as senseis in his new dojos. With his vast financial resources, it shouldn’t be difficult for him to hire skilled martial artists to fill these roles. Since they’ll all be located in the Valley, it makes sense that these additional dojos and their respective senseis can fit into Cobra Kai season 5’s story.

In fact, the show taking this course could explain some casting news from December 2021. MMA fighters “Wonderboy” Stephen Thompson and Tyron Woodley have been cast in undisclosed roles in Cobra Kai [via comingsoon.net]. With their background as fighters, they could easily play two of Silver’s cohorts. Each could lead their own Cobra Kai dojo once Silver fulfills the promise he made in the season 4 finale.

Having multiple villains joining Terry Silver’s side could be necessary for Cobra Kai season 5’s story. After all, the other three senseis in the Valley are all poised to be his enemies. Instead of dealing only with Johnny (William Zabka) and Daniel (Ralph Macchio), he’ll also be at odds with Kreese (Martin Kove), considering that the villain just framed him for beating up Stingray. Adding to the list of obstacles in his way is Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), who just joined forces with Daniel. When looking at the number of characters that’ll be in play in Cobra Kai season 5, Silver may be in need of a few capable allies of his own. Barnes may not be enough.
