NBC’s Community has recently been gaining a lot of popularity, with a Netflix streaming deal and the recent virtual reunion to raise funds for COVID-19 charities. The cast members are one of the biggest names in television, with Donald Glover and Alison Brie becoming especially successful.

Donald Glover, in particular, received widespread praise for his portrayal of Troy, the lovable idiot, and the character became a fan-favorite due to his hilarious lines and his excessive crying expressions. Even though Donald Glover left in season 5, Troy is forever in fans’ hearts. Here are another 10 of his hilarious, iconic one-liners.

10 “I’m Gonna Eat Spaceman Paninis With Black Hitler And There’s Nothing You Can Do About It!”

In “Advanced Gay”, the Air Conditioning Repair School Annex has been keeping an eye out to recruit Troy to their school, and they kidnap him and make him see things nobody would ever believe – a black Hitler, and a man in a spacesuit making Panini sandwiches.

When Jerry the Janitor tries to get him to join the Janitor School, he refuses and says the above hilarious line. What really makes it funny is Donald Glover’s amazing delivery and the Janitor’s confused expression.

9 “Kettle Corn?! That’s A Fun Time Snack!”

After he finds out Shirley might be pregnant with Chang’s child, Troy is thinking of a plan to ask Andre about it, but Jeff interrupts his thinking by bringing a girl and telling it to Troy. Troy says hen”doesn’t have time for this childish behavior”.

However, as soon as Rich brings some kettle-corn, he immediately forgets all about his plan and rushes to eat some. His tone and expressions really sell the line.

8 “I Don’t Get History. If I Wanted To Know What Happened In Europe A Long Time Ago, I’d Watch Game of Thrones.”

Troy is often called the dumb one since most of his funniest lines are based on something silly he says or thinks (“He thinks all dogs are boys and all cats are girls.” “There’s no way to disprove that, have you ever seen a cat penis?”).

In the season 4 episode, “Alternative History of the German Invasion”, the study group is all set to study History of Europe with Professor Cornwallis, and while doing an assignment for the class, Troy hilariously says the above line.

7 “Women’s Shoes? Rick Doesn’t Have A Wife… OR WOMEN’S FEET!”

After Annie breaks Abed’s Dark Knight DVD in the season 3 episode, “Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism”, she stages a fake robbery to throw suspicion from her. It works, however, Abed is convinced that Rick the landlord did it.

He dresses up as Batman and breaks into Rick’s apartment, and in his closet, they find stacks and stacks of women’s shoes. Troy notices the shoes and hilariously says the above line. The confused and thoughtful expression on Troy’s face makes this a truly memorable line.

6 “Wait, You Were Saying Mourning With A ‘U’?”

In “Cooperative Polygraphy”, the study group returns from attending Pierce’s funeral, and Abed and Troy say their iconic line with a twist – “Troy and Abed are in mourning!”. Abed remarks how people didn’t seem to get that they were saying ‘mourning’ with a “U”.

Troy, however, is taken aback at this and says the above line. It’s so hilarious once you realize that if Troy didn’t know they were saying ‘mourning’, why’d the line even make sense for them to say at a funeral? Classic Community.

5 “They’re Making Us Walk Around With Pretzels In Our Butts, And I Put Mustard On Mine Like An Idiot.”

In the season 1 episode, “The Art of Discourse”, Abed and Troy join a frat group since it was in Abed’s “Quintessential College Experience List”, a sort of bucket list of everything one must have done to have had a successful first year in college.

When the study group tries to talk to Pierce, Troy asks them to hurry along and keeps making an uncomfortable expression. When asked about it, he simply says the above hilarious line.

4 “If All We Need Is An Escape-Goat, Maybe We Should Just Let This One Go.”

Troy often mishears and misuses words, such as “juggle-knob” instead of “juggernaut” and “all-tomato” instead of “ultimatum”. The first time this happened though, was in the season 1 episode, “The Art of Discourse” when the group is discussing who the “new Pierce” is.

Abed says that now that Pierce has left the group, they need a new scapegoat to be the butt of the joke, and Troy, mishearing him, says the above iconic line. It’s not only a clever and smartly crafted line but a hilarious one as well.

3 “Britta Was Born In The 80s! She Still Uses Her Phone Like A Phone!”

In the season 3 episode, “Origins of Vampire Mythology”, Annie has hidden Britta’s phone on her request, so she’s not tempted to talk to her ex, Blade. Annie goes to great lengths to keep her from contacting Blade, such as changing Blade’s number on Britta’s phone to hers.

However, Britta calls her ex as soon as she gets her phone and it goes to Annie instead. Annie admonishes how she’s calling him, and Troy says the above hilarious line, reminding fans of the generation gap in the Study Group.

2 “Why Am I Crying? Did I Accidentally Listen To ‘Come Sail Away’ by Styx Again?”

In the season 1 episode, “Debate 109”, Troy and Shirley are convinced that Abed’s films tell the future, and in one of the clips, he sees the Actor Troy weeping. He immediately asks Abed about it, saying the above quote.

Besides being hilarious, the line was quite meaningful as well. When Donald Glover left the show in season 5, Troy leaves to sail around the world in a boat, and “Come Sail Away” plays in the background.

1 “I TOLD PIERCE A THOUSAND TIMES! I NEVER WANTED TO MEET LEVAR IN PERSON! I JUST WANTED A PICTURE! YOU CAN’T DISAPPOINT A PICTURE! I HATE YOU, PIERCE! I HATE YOU!

Donald Glover crying and shouting is one of the funniest things in the entire show, and when it does happen, it is guaranteed to get a laugh from fans. In “Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking”, Pierce gets LeVar Burton to come and meet Troy.

However, Troy only wanted photos of the actor, and never to meet him, as he reveals in his hilarious quote above. He says if he had a wish he would either ask for a signed picture of LeVar or a thousand wishes. (and end up spending them all on a thousand signed photos of LeVar Burton).
