The identity of the “Ass Crack Bandit” remains one of the biggest lingering questions to come out of Community. The serial prankster terrorized students at Greendale Community College for years, but show creator Dan Harmon left the mystery to go unsolved. Following the resurgence of the show’s popularity due to streaming on Netflix and Hulu, even more theories regarding the Ass Crack Bandit (or ACB) have been emerging.

The ACB was first mentioned in the Community season 2 episode titled “Intro to Political Science.” Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) decided to host an election for a student body president. Aside from Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), Annie Edison (Alison Brie) served as one of the most serious candidates. During her election speech, she claimed that if she was chosen as the president, one of her goals would be to catch the “Ass Crack Bandit.” In season 5, that unidentified figure would become the focus of “Basic Intergluteal Numismatics.”

Annie investigated the identity of the ACB for years before the figure reemerged, targeting unsuspecting victims. The ACB received the moniker for the specific M.O. of dropping coins down people’s pants when they leaned over. While the school tried to deny the existence of the ACB, Annie and Jeff figured that a faculty member was the culprit. Annie ramped up the investigation in season 5 when the ACB continued “cracking.” Even Troy Barnes (Donald Glover) became a victim, which didn’t sit well with Annie and the rest of the study group. After dead-end leads and a fake confession from Star-Burns (Dino Stamatopoulos), Annie’s only real evidence was that the ACB was a fan of Dave Matthews Band based on a letter written by the prankster containing lyrics to their songs. Before Annie could catch the ACB, Pierce Hawthorne’s (Chevy Chase) death sidelined the focus, and the “cracking” stopped. The suspect list is still long, but a compelling theory provided by a Reddit user points to Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs) as the ACB.

Why Britta Could Have Been The “Ass Crack Bandit” In Community

Almost every major character in Community could be deemed a suspect, including every member of the study group. In fact, some viewers believe that the friend group worked together while acting as the ACB. According to the theory, Britta may have been the perfect candidate to pull off the pranks. On the surface, she didn’t seem to have the motivation, but Britta was often mocked by her peers for ruining things, which they referred to as “Britta-ing.” After taking psychology classes, it was also revealed that Britta secretly had dangerous and antisocial behavior.

The tangible evidence presented in Community also pointed at Britta as a plausible suspect. She was born in the ’80s and could have easily been familiar with Dave Matthews Band. The ACB needed to have access to the teacher’s lounge due to various attacks. Though Britta wasn’t a faculty member, Professor Ian Duncan (John Oliver) was infatuated with her, and he may have given her unlimited entry into the lounge. If that was the case, then Duncan’s actions backfired since he too became a victim. Last but not least, Britta was writing a psychology paper and accidentally typed “Ass Crack Britta” instead of “Ass Crack Bandit.” It also might not be a coincidence that Britta broke into Frankie Dart’s (Paget Brewster) car in season 6, and stole some money in the form of coins.
